Terrific Times in Year Two

This term in Inquiry, students are exploring how technologies are designed and used to solve problems. They are investigating different materials, their properties, and why certain materials are chosen for different products. Students will also be generating and communicating their own design ideas through drawing, modelling and describing their thinking.

How you can help at home: Encourage your child to look at everyday objects around the house and discuss what materials they are made from and why those materials were chosen. You could also ask them to design or draw a simple invention to solve a problem at home and explain how it would work.

Each morning, students continue to participate in targeted phonics lessons, where they practise and revise long vowel sounds and more complex spelling patterns. These small-group sessions help students strengthen their decoding, spelling and reading skills.

How you can help at home: Ask your child which spelling rule they are learning by looking at their homework words. Encourage them to explain the rule and use each word in a sentence to demonstrate their understanding. This simple practice helps reinforce the learning taking place at school.
