Year Five/Six News 

This fortnight, our Grade 5/6 students have been learning about the Victorian State Government and exploring how ideas become laws that affect our everyday lives. Students investigated the roles of the Premier, Ministers, the Speaker of the House, government and opposition members, and discovered the journey a bill takes before becoming a law.

To bring their learning to life, students worked collaboratively to write their own mock bills before participating in a simulated parliamentary sitting. Taking on the roles of Members of Parliament, students debated their proposed laws, presented speeches, asked questions and voted on each bill, just as they would in the Victorian Parliament.

The mock parliament was a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their public speaking, persuasive writing and critical thinking skills while gaining a deeper understanding of Australia's democratic processes. It was wonderful to see students confidently expressing their ideas, respectfully challenging different viewpoints and working together to make informed decisions.

We were incredibly proud of the enthusiasm, teamwork and maturity our students demonstrated throughout this learning experience.
