Foundation/ Year One News

Foundation News
This term, we are learning to be scientists and use our senses to observe the features of plants and animals. We have started an experiment in our classrooms, growing mung beans and pinto beans without dirt. We are watching carefully to see if our seeds have the right conditions to grow! Some seeds are definitely getting more sunlight.
We have also had a close look at flowers this week. A big thank you to families for sending along flowers for this experiment. After examining the flowers, students drew their flower and labelled the parts.
Year 1 News
Year 1 has been busy with lots of exciting learning! In Mathematics, we have been exploring multiplication by making equal groups and creating arrays. Students have been learning that multiplication helps us find the total quickly by counting groups of the same size.
In Writing, we are putting the finishing touches on our narrative stories ready to be shared at the Writers' Festival next term. We are so proud of the creativity and effort students have shown as they have planned, written and edited their stories.
In Literacy, we have been learning the new digraphs 'ow' and 'ou', which both make the 'ow' sound, like in owl and ouch. Students have been practising reading and spelling words containing these new sound patterns and are becoming more confident every day.
