Year Two Team News

with Joel, Bianca I, Zoe and Rochelle

Hello Year Two families,

 Important news and reminders:

  • Term 3 Oral Presentations: Our Term 3 oral presentations have been going extremely well. The presentations about ‘the ways our families played in the past’ has led to much discussion and harnessed a lot of interest. We look forward to hearing about the different ways people played in the past. Thank you for supporting your child with this task. We have been extremely impressed with the presentations already completed.
  • Book Week incursion: Wednesday 19th August.
  • Book Week Parade: Friday 21st August, we will be celebrating Book Week with our annual Book Week Parade. The theme this year is ‘Symphony of Stories’. We look forward to seeing all of the students’ wonderful costumes.

Curriculum Focus: Weeks 5 and 6

Literacy: In Reading, we will be looking at strategies to improve comprehension, such as making inferences. Making inferences is the process of combining clues from the text and prior knowledge to understand what is read. In Writing, we will continue exploring students' opinions, which will lead to students drafting their own persuasive writing piece.

Numeracy:  We will be revising key concepts and skills (place value and time).

Inquiry: We will be continuing to learn about toys from the past and discuss how toys have changed over time. We also analyse why these changes have been made and discuss whether these changes are positive or negative, or a mixture of both. We will be using our oral presentations to stimulate many thoughts and discussions about this.

Willy Kids: Through the pillar of Resilience, we are learning about bouncing back from challenging situations and discussing what qualities and strategies are required to assist us to do this.

Respectful RelationshipsThis term, we are focusing on Gender and Identity. We will be exploring a range of activities that will support students to reflect on their identities: likes, dislikes and strengths. Students will develop an awareness of positive and negative gender norms, challenge negative gender norms and develop an appreciation of difference.

Until next time,

The Grade Two Team - Joel Kitchen (2J), Bianca Italiano / Zoe Kitchen (2I) & Rochelle White (2W)
