LOTE (French)

Prep–Year 2

This fortnight, our younger students have been exploring the weather in French while continuing their adventures with Ton Ton the Turtle! Students are learning weather vocabulary and beginning to write simple French sentences using what they have learned. We have also been enjoying French stories together, where students are developing their listening skills and learning to identify key elements of a story. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they use more French in class each week.

Years 3–6

Our senior students are continuing to work towards their end-of-term assessment by reading a new French story each week. Together, we are identifying the key story elements who, what, where, and when all in French, while building vocabulary and comprehension skills. Students have also been creating a Book Report Sandwich each week, which helps them recall important details from the story and expand their French vocabulary. It has been fantastic to see students becoming more confident in understanding and discussing French texts.

French Club

French Club continues to run every Thursday during second half of lunch for students in Years 3–6. Everyone is welcome to come along and extend their French learning beyond the classroom through fun games, activities, crafts, and language challenges. If your child enjoys French and would like to learn even more, we’d love to see them join us!

Run Club

Run Club takes place every Tuesday first had of lunch and is open to students in Years 3–6 who are looking to improve their fitness, running speed, and endurance. Students are encouraged to commit to attending regularly so they can build their skills and see their progress over time.

Performing Arts 

Prep: Students have continued learning about the elements of drama and acting. They have used their observation skills when playing mirror mimes with a partner. They have identified when a person is feeling a particular emotion and have used their imagination to act out a scene where they would feel a given emotion. 

Year 1/2: Students have used their face and body to communicate ideas. They have identified the different ways we can use our voice and have tried acting out some lines from the movie, “Trolls” with an emphasis on delivery with emotion.

Grade 3/4: Students have watched examples of professional actors perform and have considered the skills an actor needs to make them believable. They have been able to show emotion without talking when acting out a scene. Students have also tried using their voices in a variety of ways including delivering lines from children’s animated movies.

Grade 5/6: Students have played Pass the emotion which focuses on observation and looking believable. They have also watched a scene where a line is delivered in a number different ways. They have created an audition tape of themselves delivering a well know line from a movie in 4 contrasting ways.

Music Clubs – *Change in Performance Dates!

• Week 6: 5/6C Whole School Assembly 21/08 - The Rock Band will have their first performance.
• Week 8: 5/6B Whole School Assembly 4/9 - The Marimba Band will have their first performance. The Choir will have their second performance for the year.

Each club are also working on learning and preparing some new songs to perform later in the year. 

We look forward to hearing from them again at the Art Show on Sunday 25th October. (Times to be advised)

Visual Art

We continue to be very busy in the Art Room. All classes are finishing off work and beginning new art pieces for our upcoming Art Show. All grades are also finishing their Crazy Camel art pieces. More information will be coming up about this fundraiser. Orders for this will open on October 21st so we have plenty of time to finish them off and pass them onto the Crazy Camel Company to be scanned and ready to order. 

Grade Prep

Last week we continued to work on our Crazy Camel individual art pieces. We then looked at self-portraits and began sketching out our master pieces. This week we used our gorgeous ‘Dots’ from term one and created spider webs using laminating sheets. These turned out so well! In the coming weeks we will be creating red back spiders to complete this piece ready for display.

Grade 1

Last week the Grade 1’s worked on their Crazy Camel art pieces. This week they began an amazing 3D project where they will create a unique bird using recycled cardboard, paint sticks, and paint pens. I cannot wait to see these colourful birds come together!

Grade 2

Last week the Grade 2’s worked on their Crazy Camel art pieces. This week we jumped back to putting a second coat on our frames that we started in term two. Next week we will choose an Australian animal and create a portrait to add to our frames.

Grade 3/4

The Grade 3/4’s are working on different tasks for each grade that have a retro vibe. We will look at various techniques to recreate an iconic piece of art reminiscent of the 80’s. So far this week 3/4T has started making lava lamps and 3/4B is working on disco balls. Coming up, 3/4M will create vinyl look records, 3/4P are designing roller skates and 3/4S will make mini square paintings of retro objects.

Grade 5/6

Hopefully, this is our last week for finishing our food trucks! We are also creating zentangle focal points to add to our fantastic ‘Gelli’ plate prints. The students will choose an animal or plant to sketch and will fill in the detail with intricate zentangle patterns and shapes using a fine liner pen. 

Art club

Last week in Art Club, we used recycled boxes to create large Rubix Cubes. This week we used fluorescent paper to create ‘snip snips’ or you may know them better as snowflakes. The children were amazed at their creations when they opened their paper! We will do more of this next week.

Art club is available to different year levels each term. The schedule for 2026 will be as follows:

Art smocks

Just a reminder to bring in your Art smocks. Please hand them into your classroom teacher for storage. I recommend an old, oversized t-shirt or shirt with your child’s name on it.

Physical Education

Term 3 is flying, with sharper PE skills and three WPS teams bound for Western Metropolitan Region finals.

PE in Action

• Prep — Stop, step and gently kick towards a target, controlling direction and force.
• Years 1–2 — Move into space and pass accurately so teammates have a clear option.
• Years 3–4 — Send, receive and return over a net, using court position to sustain a rally.
• Years 5–6 — Use formations, communication and attacking space to move the ball effectively.

Finals Fever

Congratulations to our AFL Boys/Mixed and Hockey Boys/Mixed and Girls teams on qualifying for WMR finals. Best of luck to AFL on Tuesday 11 August and both Hockey teams on Monday 17 August.

What's Next

Wednesday 12 August — Williamstown District Athletics Carnival. Our 64 qualifiers will represent WPS across track and field events. Families, please support them as they race, jump and throw for WPS.
