Sport News

Last weekend saw the commencement of our Term 3 AIC sports with tennis, basketball and rugby league competing against Iona College in Round 1. We also had our renewed internal basketball competition kick off last weekend with fresh enthusiasm and energy which was great to see.
Our 1st IV Tennis team went down 2-6. Marist won 11 matches to 5 losses overall in the program. The Iona 1st XIII Rugby League were too strong throughout, wining 28-6. The 1st V Basketball came out firing, playing an exceptional style of basketball across all four quarters. Finishing the game as winners 88-76.
This weekend we are away at St Peters Lutheran College, with Ambrose Treacy College providing some supplementary matches. Marist are also hosting some matches so please check the draw carefully.
Expectations for Training
There has been significant progress here so well done, some sports are doing better than others and it is a good time to re-highlight our expectations for training.
- ARRIVAL: Start times are just that- not arrival times. If training starts at 3:30pm that means you are on the field with boots on ready to go, not just arriving.
- DRESS CODE: All players are to arrive in Marist training kit. Players not in the correct apparel will be excluded from training.
- ATTITUDE: Training is work time not social time. To play at your best you need to train at your best. ATTITUDE is vital here.
- COMMUNICATING ABSENCE: An email is required if you are going to miss to your coach to explain why.
- CONSEQUENCES: Doing the wrong thing is letting down your school; your coaches; your teammates and most importantly yourself.
- EQUIPMENT: Where a sport has mandated safety equipment all training sessions will require the wearing of these items. This includes, but is not limited to, boots/specialty shoes, shin pads and mouthguards. Boys will not be allowed to participate in training sessions without these.

We compete in the Brisbane Schoolboys Competition each Wednesday afternoon, and our first match of the season against Padua College was a fantastic display of teamwork and skill. The boys secured a convincing 6-2 victory.
Matt Alvarez and Luke Keir both scored hat-tricks, while the team's excellent passing game was also a standout. A special mention also goes to Blake Guest, who stepped into the goalkeeper role for the first time, which is no easy task.
We face St Patrick’s next Wednesday at Burringbar Park and look forward to another strong performance from the team.
Basketball

Our senior teams produced outstanding results, with victories to the 1st V, 2nd V, and 4th V, while the 9A, 9B, 9C, and 9D teams completed a clean sweep of their fixtures. In the junior competition, congratulations to the 6C and 6D teams, who opened their campaigns with convincing wins.

1st V Basketball
Mr James Lymer - 1st V Coach
It was a special day for the Basketball Program last Saturday, with our 1st V team opening the AIC season with an impressive 88–76 home victory over Iona College.
In what was a highly competitive contest, the boys displayed outstanding resilience and composure to secure a well-deserved win. A dominant 31 point third quarter proved the difference, while their commitment to the game plan and willingness to play for one another across all four quarters ultimately stood out the most.
It was fantastic to see so many parents, families and students in the stands supporting the team. Your energy throughout created a terrific atmosphere and meant a great deal to our players.
While it is an encouraging way to begin the season, the group remains firmly focused on the goal ahead as they prepare for Round 2 on the road against St Peter’s at 12:15pm. We appreciate the continued support of the Marist community and look forward to seeing the Blue and Gold out in force once again.
