Reading & Writing  

As part of the Literacy program in Term 2, students will be looking at the following sounds:

• oo (book)/u (put)
• au/aw/augh

As part of our home learning, students will continue to engage in reading decodable texts. 

Over this term we will also enjoy books such as ‘City of Light’ by Julie Lawrinson, ‘Curiosity: The Story Of A Mars’ by Markus Motum, ‘The Lorax’ by Dr Seuss and ‘The Boy and The Elephant’ by Freya Blackwood.

During these units, the students will be exploring themes such as: 

• Small actions make a big difference
• Community and togetherness
• Belonging, friendship and acceptance
• Science and technology
• Caring for the environment

Writing 

In Year 2, students will continue to develop their writing skills across a range of text types, including narratives, factual recounts, and persuasive texts. When writing narratives, students create imaginative stories with a clear beginning, middle, and end. In factual recounts, they retell events in the order they happened, focusing on clear sequencing, simple detail, and correct use of past tense. For persuasive writing, students begin to express their opinions and give reasons for their ideas. Across all writing tasks, students continue to build their confidence with sentence structure, spelling, punctuation, and organising their ideas clearly. 

We will continue to work on handwriting in both our reading and writing lessons.
