Sexuality and Protective Behaviour Program

St. Mary's has again engaged Cath McCallig to facilitate the Sexuality and Protective Behaviour education program which is part of the curriculum. Cath has delivered this program at our school and neighbouring schools before and does so very effectively,

Cath McCallig is a trained teacher who worked in Primary Schools for several years before she began co-writing, producing and performing a Theatre in Education show about Self Esteem and Body Image (Beauty is Your Duty).

In recent years, Cath enjoyed working with Family Life Victoria (FLV) as a Sexuality Educator in Primary Schools. Following the close of FLV, Cath decided to branch out and start her own Sexuality Education business, Sex Ed 4 Schools.

Cath now offers her Protective Behaviours and Sexuality Education Programs to school communities. With four children of her own, Cath understands and fully supports the important role families have in the sexuality and safety education of children.

As part of the school program, students attend 3 x 1-hour sessions with their teacher during class. The will take place over 3 weeks in Term 4 (Friday, 3rd, 10th and 17th November).

These classes are designed to make sexuality education a positive and respectful experience.

The school program outline is available upon request. It uses the Department of Education and Training document “Catching On Early” to guide year-level content so that schools meet their Victorian Curriculum obligations. For more information, check the link here:

Parent Information Session

A Parent Information Evening is being offered for parents keen to be further informed about the Victorian Curriculum requirements concerning Sexuality Education and how the program will be delivered in the classroom.

This session will be held on Thursday 19th October from 6pm via Zoom. A link will be shared with families in due course.
