Principal's News

Dear families,

Excitement is building at St Mary’s, with our Art Show coming up on Thursday 7th September. Having seen many of the artworks that the students have created or are putting the finishing touches too, I know that members of our community are going to be blown away by the high standard and creative talent on display.

The Art Show is shaping up to be an incredible community event. Doors will open at 5:00pm, with the entire school being transformed into a range of gallery spaces. On display will be artworks utilising a range of mediums; painting, sculpture, printing photography, media arts and more. As well as displayed art, there will be interactive art spaces where families can enjoy making art together. Families will also be entertained by roving group performances and various buskers throughout the night. People will also be able to have their portraits painted by our Prep artists!

Tickets for the event will be as follows:

  • 1 Adult x $15
  • 2 Adults x $25
  • 3+ Adults x $35

All students and children under 18 years of age receive free entry.

Tickets allow entry into all art and performance spaces, as well as a pack of your child’s artwork which will be packaged and sent home, once displays come down.

Please also bring along gold coins donations for our buskers and Prep portrait painters. There will also be a sausage sizzle and refreshments provided by the PnF which can be purchased separately.

Families are now able to purchase tickets through CDF Pay. Simply present your ticket at the main door (printed or screenshot) when you arrive. Families will be provided with a map of the gallery spaces and times for performances throughout the evening.

We are confident that by the time doors close at 8pm you will be impressed and proud of what the students of St Mary’s have achieved!

Please do take note of the varied forms of assistance we are needing to help make the Art Show a success. Mrs M has set up a Google Form for helpers for backing and framing art works and setting up displays prior to the night and packing up the day after. Please find the link to the form below and please put your name down if you're able to assist Mrs M.

If you have an hour (or more) to help out, it would be greatly appreciated. We will also need parent helpers on the day before the Art show (Wednesday 6th September), the day of (Thursday 7th September) to put up displays, and the day after (Friday 8th September)  to clean up. Please complete the form via the link below, which has also been sent out by the school office.

Book Week

Next week, we will be celebration Book Week, commencing with a Book Week Parade at 9am Monday morning. Children are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite book character. Students will then be visiting different classrooms for special Book Week activities with our teachers.

No skill is more important to a child's development than reading. Even in our digital age, reading is still an essential ability for communication and learning, and children who learn to love reading have a pastime that will engage their imaginations and intellects for the rest of their lives.

Father’s Day Breakfast and Liturgy

All fathers, grandfathers and other special male figures in our students' lives are warmly invited to our Father's Day breakfast and liturgy on Friday 1st September. Breakfast will be from 7:30am on the basketball court, with Mass commencing at 9am in the church. There will be a Father's Day stall for students to purchase a gift on Thursday 31st August

School Improvement Surveys

At the end of the month, students, families and staff will be invited to participate in the Catholic Education Melbourne School Improvement Surveys (CEMSIS). Parents can complete the survey anytime over the three-week window between  Monday 28th August and Friday 15th September via an emailed link and password that will be sent out. The surveys can be completed on a range of mobile devices and different web browsers.

Our community’s perspectives are critical to understanding how our school is performing – CEMSIS is a key data source for guiding the ongoing work to improve our school. All participation is invited, welcomed and 100% voluntary. The surveys are an inclusive way to guide the work we are already doing to improve our school.
