What's On In 3/4

Hello! We hope you are all well!
The last few weeks have been very hectic in the ¾ area! We have been using our brains for so many different reasons that they have certainly been stretched to their limits. There has been lots of investigative learning happening, along with plenty of smiles, laughter and moments of discovery.
It has actually been wonderful to see the growth in our students—not just in their learning, but also in their height! It seems like every time I look around, someone has grown a few more centimetres. Now, it may not take much for some of them to get past my height, but golly, I feel like they are getting taller each and every day!
It has certainly been a busy few weeks, but it has also been fantastic to see our students challenging themselves, working together and growing in so many different ways.
For the next few weeks until the end of term we welcome Sarah in the 3/4D classroom. She is a practising teacher from Melbourne University.
Kitchen
Due to some of our 5/6 students being away on camp, we have been lucky enough to have an extra kitchen class! This has been such an exciting opportunity, as we get to see our students working together, communicating and supporting one another in a completely different setting.
It is wonderful to watch them take on different tasks, work as a team and then come together in the dining area to celebrate and enjoy everything they have cooked. There is something really special about seeing students shine in the kitchen—particularly those who may not always show the same confidence in the classroom.
We feel so lucky to have these opportunities to see different sides of our students. Seeing them happy, relaxed, proud of their creations and enjoying time together is a real highlight.
Literacy
Our Literacy learning has been filled with lots of reading, writing, speaking and listening. We place a strong focus on student voice, encouraging students to make choices, share their ideas and develop greater independence as learners.
Students are working hard to find a ‘right fit’ book to enjoy each day and are developing a love of reading through their reading journals. They use these journals to jot down interesting findings, record their thinking and practise important reading skills. The students in 3/4D particularly love sharing little snippets of what they have been reading each day. It has been wonderful to see them recommending books to one another, sparking conversations and encouraging their peers to pick up a new book.
Our writing journey has taken us into the lives of famous people from all walks of life as students researched and created their own biography books. They worked incredibly hard, and the finished books look amazing!
We are now turning the focus closer to home as we begin exploring autobiographies and learning how to tell the story of our own lives. Students will be thinking about important memories, people, places and experiences that have helped shape who they are.
Your child may come home asking you a few questions as they gather information for their autobiography. If they don’t, why not start a conversation with them about what they were like when they were younger, places you visited together, favourite family memories or even the games you used to play? These conversations will provide some wonderful memories and stories for them to include in their writing.
