What's On In 1/2

Book Week Parade
The theme for this year’s Book Week is ‘Symphony of Stories” and boy… did we have a ‘Symphony of Characters’ arriving on Tuesday for our parade and celebration of reading! The 1/2 area had some famous visitors with Rapunzel, Harry Potter, The Gruffalo, Weirdo to name but a few!
It was such a lovely buzz of excitement about our costumes and we certainly were eager to show our costumes to the school during our whole school parade! Thank you to all families for supporting your child to bring their favourite book character to life!
Mini Beast and Insect Incursion
This term, students in 1/2 have been diving deep into the non fiction genre. We are exploring the features of nonfiction texts and are broadening our general knowledge on a range of wacky creatures from the text ‘The World’s Most Pointless Animals’.
To prepare for Information Report Writing, we welcomed ‘Reptile Encounters’ to our school with an array of unusual minibeasts and insects. Children were intrigued to learn more about Stella the Tarantula, Hermit Crabs and a Giant Burrowing Cockroach! We also met a predator of insects, Sesame the Shingleback Lizard! Students asked many thoughtful questions and have now chosen one of the critters shown to further research, write and share with others their new knowledge!
