From the Principal

Rest in Peace - Miss Amber McKenna
It was a very sad start to Term 2 with the news of the passing of our Learning Hub Assistant Miss Amber McKenna. Miss McKenna was due to commence Long Service Leave in Term 2 having worked at the College for 18 years. The Library/Learning Hub was a very special place for Miss McKenna and she built strong and special friendships with many especially with those she worked with. We will remember Miss McKenna’s many beautiful displays her love of reading and crafts which were shared with both staff and students.
Our condolences, love and prayers are extended to Amber’s parents - Pam and Lindsay and her four brothers and their families. As a community we were able to celebrate a mass with Miss McKenna’s family on 1 May and presented them with a box of messages from staff and students. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord…May she rest in peace.
Past Events
I thank all parents for attending the Parent-Student-Teacher Interviews on Monday 20 April. The value of working together to ensure the best outcomes for all, especially our students is essential. I invite parents to maintain communication with staff and access SEQTA Engage to keep informed during the year and not wait until reports are issued.
The Inter-House Cross Country Carnival occurred in perfect weather with strong House spirit. Fun and encouragement were truly evident from all involved and I particularly thank Mr Sam Mancini, the Health and Physical Education staff, House Co-Ordinators and Heads of House. Congratulations to all champions on the day.
Our College came together on Wednesday 29 April for a moving ANZAC Day service led by Mr Bronson Gherardi, assisted by Year 10 students, the Liturgical choir and Mr Jack Collinson who played the Last Post. Special acknowledgment to our cadets Timothy Ladyman, Aiden Burns and Eve Falconer who performed their ceremonial duties respectfully and with great precision. Thank you to Jaden Laurel and Liam Cruzana who represented the College at the City of Canning service on ANZAC Day and laid a wreath on our behalf.
Staff Update
We welcome Miss Kelly O’Regan to the College as our new Learning Hub and Information Services Co-ordinator. Welcome back to Mr Roger D’Almedia who resumes his role as Deputy Principal Years 8 & 11.
I am thrilled to share the news that the new Principal of St Joseph’s School, Queens Park will be Mrs Kaye Savage-Morton. Mrs Savage-Morton was a former student of St Norbert College and served as an Assistant Principal at St Joseph’s. We look forward to continuing our strong relationship with St Joseph’s when Mrs Savage-Morton commences at the start of Semester 2.
Looking Ahead
A reminder that next Friday 15 May is a Pupil Free-Home Study Day. Our staff, along with all staff from St Joseph’s School will be participating in Christian Service in the community. This is a commitment we make every two years and we look forward to working together doing God’s work in places such as Br Ollie’s Wheelchairs for Kids, Vinnies, Kora Centre, Emmaus Community, The Haven, Shopfront and Sister Kate’s to name a few. Say “hi” if you see us out and about!
Good luck to our students in Year 10 - 12 who are commencing exams from 24 May. Please keep them in your prayers.
The Drama Production Opening Night of A Midsummer Night's Dream is on Wednesday 20 May. Please support the hard work of our staff and students by purchasing your tickets early so that you do not miss out. It promises to be a night of fun showcasing our talented students.
