NAIDOC Week

During week 1, our school community came together to acknowledge NAIDOC Week, which was celebrated 6th – 13th July.  It's a special time to honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, their history, culture, and achievements. It's been 50 years since NAIDOC Week first began. The theme for this year is: “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy.” It’s all about celebrating young people, strong communities, and the stories from Elders.

During our assembly, Indigenous cloths were presented to class representatives. These cloths will be placed with our current liturgical cloths on classroom prayer spaces and will complement our indigenous crosses that we already have.

These cloths are a reminder to us that our school is, was and always will be on traditional Aboriginal land.

Mercy Award

Our current Mercy Award is focusing on the quality of ‘Service’.

Sr Mary Austin was a Sister of Mercy and a very special person to the school community here at St Joseph's. She gave service to many people in need - visiting them, baking for them, praying for them and taking Holy Communion to them.

Some ways we can show SERVICE here at St Joseph's are:

  • using helping hands, caring actions and kind words
  • taking care of our environment (our common home)
  • offering to do jobs for others
  • being a good friend
  • helping those in need when they need it most

Reconciliation

Last week a parent information session was held for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Materials required for the program were handed out. If you still require yours, please contact your child’s teacher.

The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be held on Friday, August 29th. Any baptised students in Grade 3 or above are able to enrol in this program. It is a home-based program undertaken over 4 weeks leading up to the ceremony.

Feast of the Assumption

The Feast of the Assumption will be celebrated with a whole school Mass on Friday August 15th at 12pm . All are welcome to attend.
