Kendo Workshops

On 28 & 29 November, our Year 8 and 9 Japanese students participated in a Kendo workshop.

Kendo, meaning ‘the way of the sword’, is a traditional Japanese martial art that emphasises discipline, respect, and self-control. During the sessions, students learned about the history and cultural significance of Kendo, observed key techniques, and explored the etiquette and principles that underpin each match.

The Kendo workshop was conducted by Gary Oliver, a highly experienced local Kendo practitioner, who also established the Ballarat Kendo Club.

The Kendo workshop gave students a valuable cultural experience and deepen their understanding of Japanese traditions and values.
