Can you believe it? We are officially less than a month till Christmas! 🎄
For our amazing NCS parents, that statement might trigger a slight feeling of dread as the mental list of shopping, wrapping, cooking, and coordinating seems to be endlessly. For the kids, though? That sentence sparks pure delight, a thrilling countdown to the big day!
You’ve likely already received those detailed "wish lists" (or been asked a thousand times what you want!). If I’m honest, the first things that jump into my head are a uninterrupted night's sleep, an hour of silence, or maybe just a few extra hours added to the day! Meanwhile, our children’s lists are probably overflowing with books, games, or the latest gadgets.
But let’s pause and wonder: What would genuinely be on your list if you could truly have anything you wanted?
Would your deepest wish be for Peace? For Love? For Purpose? Hope? Or maybe Certainty in an uncertain world?
While these treasures can’t be boxed and placed under the tree, Christmas is the most perfect time to seek and ask for them. Because Christmas reminds us that the best gifts, the gifts of Peace, Hope, and Eternal Purpose, have already arrived in Jesus.
A well known bible verse that is often used at Christmas time is:
Isaiah 9:6
For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
This verse describes for us someone who can and will be the provider of peace, someone who is mighty but also loves us like a father loves his children. This person is someone to put your hope and confidence in. Jesus coming to earth, to live, to die and to rise again brings us peace that is not just the absence of war but true peace that takes all that is broken and restores it to whole. Jesus offers you a future and he offers you forgiveness.
So what do you ultimately want for Christmas? If its true peace, if its hope, if its confidence and purpose don’t let the opportunity pass you by, seek out Jesus who can provide you all the things on your ultimate Christmas list.
Have a joy-filled, and relatively calm, final few weeks of the term!
