Kitchen Garden

Weeks 5 -6 in the Kitchen…

Our Autumn Garden

Yes we are in Autumn and as our day light  becomes shorter we busily move from a summer garden towards a slower winter garden. WE JUST NEED SOME RAIN.

This week at St.As we took part in Schools Clean up Australia Day.

Clean Up Australia Day We are encouraging everyone to get involved in Clean Up Australia Day on Sunday 2nd March 2025 and help us make this the BIGGEST ever, as we celebrate 35 years of improving and conserving our environment, one piece of litter at a time.

It was a great effort by each class to pick up rubbish from the different parts of our school.

The event gave our students an avenue to make a positive difference to our local environment.   Our Sustainability Leaders collated and recorded our rubbish audit.  In garden classes we also chatted about What Waste Goes Where and how we can reduce waste.

The last of our tomatoes and pumkins have been harvested by our students.  With Eli still holding a pumpkin weigh in record at 7.7Kg.

However the record may be broken as we have a few last pumpkins to harvest next week.

A highlight this week in the garden has been our Preps receiving their St.As wheelbarrow license.  We are very proud to say we have some very competent movers in the garden  Well Done.

With a lot of effort  we have cleared a lot of our garden beds ready for new planting.  So far we have planted Silverbeet, Celery, peas and Bok Choy with a lot more to come.

Our School Animals continue to enjoy lots of visits and cuddles from our students, our ducklings have doubled in size.

In the next few weeks in the garden we will be learning about Composting, Worms and Deciduous Trees.

Many Beautiful Blue Banded Bees visiting our garden at the moment.

We are also looking for parent helpers to assist in kitchen or garden.  Parents from prep to 4s are happy to contact us to assist.
