Dear Parents and Carers

It's hard to believe we are half way through term 1! It's been action packed with excursions, dental vans, swimming sports, parent teacher interviews and a lot of learning.

SCHOOL COUNCIL 2025

School Council had their first meeting last week where we welcomed new members: Kate Crowe, Susan Williamson, Christy Kerr and Mary-Helen McIlroy. Megan Considine, Fiona Slattery, Megan Brock, David Thorpe, Sophie Gammon, Sara Donaldson and Gareth Buck will continue to serve on the Council in 2025.

Our office bearers for 2025 are: President: Mary-Helen McIlroy, Vice President: David Thorpe and Treasurer: Fiona Slattery.

School Council are planning to set up a working group to address road safety issues around the school. If you would like to be a part of this group, please email Megan Smith (megan.smith@education.vic.gov.au).

Council was thrilled to hear that our school family contributions for curriculum items has reached 59% of our budgeted target of $237,809. This equates to 40% of families having contributed to this area. We are grateful for this support and hope to see this increase as we move through the year. SCHOOL FAIR COORDINATORS 2025

We have new Fair Coordinators for 2025. Thank you to Alison Lewis and Nick Haslett for volunteering to take on this important role. This is a much anticipated event by the students!

We have a number of Fair Committee roles that to fill to support the coordinators in making the 2025 Fair possible:

Logistics Coordinator

This role looks after the inventory and supply of the equipment for the fair (ie. marquees, tables, chairs, umbrellas etc.) in the lead up to and on the day of the fair. The Logistics coordinator will need a team of volunteers to assist on the day before and after the fair to help get everything into place and packed away. This coordinator manages the sharing and distribution of the equipment with the ''School Collective" which is a group of other local primary school parent volunteers who all share and borrow the equipment amongst their primary schools for their school fair and other events. The logistics crew are integral to the smooth operation of the fair.

Permits Coordinator

This role collects all the permits required by the council to run the event (like the food & bev licences, street closure permit etc.). This role doesn't necessarily require a lot of group discussion/ attendance to the fair meetings.

Boards and Advertising Coordinator

This role arranges the placement of the giant auction size advertising boards to be placed at prominent locations around the neighbourhood. Most locations are school families and most would be likely to have them up again. This role requires coordination between the real estate sponsor who donate the boards and advertising flyers/ posters and Yarra Council (as they provide permits for the boards to go up in Darling Gardens and Edinburgh Gardens). The coordinator arranges parent volunteers to complete letterbox drops of flyers and posters into the local shop windows to advertise the fair.

Socials Coordinator

This role manages the creation and posting of all the Instagram posts and facebook posts. The posts aim to create excitement, hype and provide info about the day to the community. The role requires creative and social media savviness to help spread the word about the day and also highlight many of the Silent Auction offerings to entice as many bids as possible.

COLOUR FUN RUN 2025 - PARTNERING WITH DJIRRA

The Colour Fun Run is fast approaching and we appreciate our families efforts to fundraise for the school. Money raised will be allocated to removing asbestos in the flooring in the Main Building and finish replacing the downstairs classroom carpets. This year we again partner with Djirra as a place where children can choose to donate the prizes that are associated with the fundraiser.

Our community partner, Djirra, is culturally safe a place where culture is shared and celebrated, and where practical support is available to all Aboriginal women and particularly to Aboriginal people who are currently experiencing family violence or have in the past. Djirra is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation governed by an Aboriginal Board of Directors who are elected by their members. Their head office is in Abbotsford. Djirra were overwhelmed with the quality and quantity of prizes that they received last year, which they were thrilled to be able to distribute to vulnerable families.

We will provide details of how to donate prizes to Djirra once prize ordering opens.
