We've had a very busy term in Stage 5 and Stage 6 Transition and Pathways at Marian.
Many Year 10 students have participated in Work Experience across our local community this term. They have enjoyed valuable hands-on experiences in a variety of workplaces, helping them gain a clearer understanding of what life after school may look like.
These opportunities support students as they navigate subject selection, explore future career pathways and build confidence as they transition towards employment. A heartfelt thank you to Ms Lole and Mrs Dickie for supporting this process. Facilitating Work Experience is an enormous task, and the administration required behind the scenes to make it all happen is significant. Thank you also to our Executive Team for recognising the value of these experiences and continuing to support them for our students.
Our Stage 5 students also attended the Becoming a Health Hero Experience, where they explored a range of careers within the health sector. Students heard from health professionals and industry representatives, gaining valuable insight into the many pathways available to them, particularly within our rural region.
Three busloads of Year 11 students recently attended the highly successful 2026 Riverina Careers Expo in Leeton. Students had the opportunity to engage with representatives from universities, training organisations, industry and employers, exploring the wide variety of pathways available after school. We hope these experiences provide greater clarity and confidence as our Year 11 students begin planning for life beyond Marian. Thank you to Mr Morris and the Year 11 Homeroom team for assisting with this excursion.
A fun way to wrap up Semester 1 was welcoming the Australian Navy's Simulator Experience to Marian Catholic College this week. Students from across all year groups had the opportunity to experience the thrill of flying a virtual helicopter using the Navy's state-of-the-art flight simulator. Beyond the excitement, students also gained an insight into the diverse range of careers available within the Australian Defence Force. It was a fantastic opportunity to finish the semester with an engaging, hands-on experience.
Last week I presented to our Year 12 students on how they can stay organised and proactive as they prepare to finish their final two terms at Marian. We explored tertiary application processes, UAC, scholarships, early entry opportunities and a general checklist of practical steps they can begin working on now. This presentation can be accessed, along with all resources on their Google Classroom. I encourage families to continue these conversations at home. While this season of decision-making can feel overwhelming, having encouragement and support from family can make a significant difference.
This week I also presented to Year 11, reminding students that their Preliminary year is far more than simply a warm-up for Year 12. It is an opportunity to build strong foundations for their final year and beyond. This may include strengthening future university applications through consistent academic effort, demonstrating compassion through service to our college and wider community, pursuing sporting or creative achievements, or beginning to build professional networks. Being willing to ask questions, seek advice and connect with potential employers is an important part of preparing for future opportunities, and that journey can begin now.
Senior students were also welcome to participate in the University of Wollongong Early Entry and University Life presentation on Wednesday where those in attendance were able to engage in the ins and outs of university life, application process, scholarships and accommodation options. Thank you to James Barton, from UOW for providing this insightful presentation to our senior students.
As I spend my final few days at Marian Catholic College, I would like to sincerely thank our families for trusting me with the privilege of supporting your young people as they prepare to step beyond the school gates. Although my time as Transition and Pathways Teacher has been relatively short, it has been an incredibly rewarding role. I have genuinely loved listening to students' aspirations, researching opportunities alongside them and helping each individual discover pathways that reflect their strengths, interests and goals. It has been a privilege to play even a small part in such an exciting chapter of their lives.
To our Year 12 students, I wish you every success for the future. Whether your next step is university, further training, an apprenticeship, employment or something entirely different, I have every confidence that you will embrace it with courage, kindness and determination. I look forward to seeing all that you achieve.
To the wider Marian Catholic College community, thank you. It has been an absolute privilege to serve this school over the past almost 13 years! Throughout that time I have been fortunate to work in a range of roles, including Classroom Teacher, Year 12 Pastoral Leader, Literacy Instructional Teacher, Inclusive Education Coordinator and, most recently, Stage 6 Transition and Pathways Teacher.
Each role has shaped me both professionally and personally, and the experiences and memories I take with me are ones I will always treasure.
In recent weeks I've shared one message with many of our students: stay open to opportunity and be willing to take a leap when new possibilities present themselves. It seems only fitting that I now take my own advice!
Thank you for allowing me to be part of this wonderful community. Marian Catholic College will always hold a very special place in my heart, and I wish every student, family and staff member all the very best.
