Wellbeing News

The end of the term is in sight however there are still lots of exciting things happening in the wellbeing space at MCC.
Year 11 have continued to rise to the challenge and be actively involved in the 2026 Push Up Challenge. Along the way they have completed a phenomenal number of push ups (or squats, lunches, push outs etc) over 23 days with a total in excess of 23,000 and raising $330 for headspace Griffith. Whilst the winning homeroom is still to be announced the competition between 2 homerooms in particular was quite fierce and certainly brought out the best in the students.
As a group, all students have been provided with facts and statistics regarding mental health and suggestions of simple steps to take to improve their own wellbeing as well as those around them. With the holidays fast approaching students have been reminded to check in on their friends, take the opportunity to laugh more, engage with nature and the outdoors, include healthy foods in their diet for a better mood, rest and sleep to revitalise the body and mind, as well as include water on a regular basis throughout the day.
They have been reminded of the importance of connection and belonging and most importantly, that it is not weak to speak; simply, to reach out if they have concerns as support is always available.
This week we were joined by Max Jones from headspace Griffith as we held an additional room challenge to find out who was the best of the best. Congratulations to Alex Melville who was the first to complete the challenge and proudly represent his home room 11.4.
The feedback from students and staff alike has been positive and overall, the activity has been enjoyed providing students with not only some great information regarding mental health but provided a positive way to start the day …..great conversations, some physical movement and lots and lots of laughter.
Thankyou to year 11 and the staff that supported you throughout the activity and the kind sponsors.
This week the year 11 Wellbeing Team have launched their “SHARE WHAT YOU CAN” food drive. Collection tubs are located near the library and donations can be placed there from Monday 22nd June until Thursday 2nd July with all donations being given to St Vincent de Paul and LCN (Linking Communities Network, lead agency within our region, Women’s Refuge & Youth Refuge) Both of these services provide frontline support and will ensure that the donations are available and distributed to those in need.
The activity is an invitation for you to contribute; there is no obligation nor pressure to participate but rather an invite to “Share What You Can”.
Suitable items include:
* canned soup * any dry goods
* packet soup * packet noodles
* UHT milk * baby formula
* cereal * canned fish/tuna
* juice or canned fruit * baked beans or similar
***We do request however that donations are please within “Best before Date”
There has been great support in the first few days, so we are extremely grateful that our MCC community has embraced this initiative.
Finally, I would like to wish everyone a wonderful holiday. For those who are travelling please be safe. For those like me, who are staying home I hope you get to enjoy the break from your busy routine and simple enjoy a rest so you can be revitalised for the new term.
