Careers in Agriculture Day at RIST
Anne Gough
On Tuesday, 21 July interested Year 9 students took the opportunity to experience a full day of hands-on agricultural activities at RIST. As shown in the photos this involved activities in agronomy, sheep body condition scoring, fencing and dog handling. They also had the excitement of simulations in welding and tractor manoeuvres. The day concluded with a scavenger hunt following clues to assist them in the orientation of a working farm.

The day gave the students an idea of the multitude of jobs, careers and the various roles in agriculture. Students at Year 10 level can commence VET Certificate II in Agriculture as a school-based Apprentice (SBA) as part of their curriculum. Year 11 is also another entry point for the SBA as well doing it through SW TAFE as a vocational student rather than an SBA.
