Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to Term 3. I hope everyone enjoyed the opportunity to slow down, rest and recharge over the holiday break.
I had the privilege of accompanying 16 of our senior students on their South Africa science adventure. What a fabulous opportunity and experience it was. You may have followed their journey on our socials. For many of the students, this will be a significant moment in their lives and for some, it may have changed or reinforced their career decisions for the future. What set this experience apart from other overseas trips was our students' ability to work directly with scientists from all over the world, gathering baseline data on the environment and animals in the Game Park and World Heritage Marine site. The data gathered provides important information to the Government organisations and ecologists who manage these sites. Our students were overwhelmingly positive about their experience, and the school has rebooked for 2028.
This week we had the great pleasure of welcoming Fr Stephen Hackett, Provincial Superior, to Monivae. Fr Stephen is an old boy of Monivae and was on staff for a number of years. He has a great affection for our school and community. At our assembly, he spoke to students about his time at Monivae and the special place it has in his heart.
Staffing
Kim Piergrosse will be joining Monivae College as a part-time Humanities Teacher this Semester.
A reminder to families: Monday, 3 August is a student-free day which allows our community to support Sheepvention.
Finally, families will likely be aware of the media attention surrounding Enterprise Bargaining negotiations in the government education sector. Discussions also continue for the Catholic sector. At this stage, industrial action will not affect Catholic schools. We will, of course, continue to keep families informed of any developments.
Lord Jesus Christ, you became one of us to reveal to us
how much your Father loves each one of us.
You reached out in love to the sinner and humble of heart.
Your heart was full of compassion for the sick and disabled,
for the bereaved, for the oppressed and the poor,
and for all who felt the burden of their humanity too heavy to bear.
Be with us in our weakness and help us to raise our hearts and minds to you in trust.
Give us loving hearts like yours so that we too may spread your love
in the circles in which we move.
Make our hearts gentle and humble so that we may have compassion for those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
Replace our hearts of stone with hearts of flesh.
Open our eyes to the goodness and beauty in all your people and in all your creation. Bless us with hearts that are always ready to forgive.
Amen.
Kind regards,
Mr Jonathan Rowe
