Boarders' Buzz

We are already halfway through Term 3 as I write this and what a busy term it has already been in the Boarding House!

Last week we celebrated all the achievements of our boarders at our Community Dinner.

Raphael McNamara took out our Boarder of the Fortnight award as he has made a great start to term 3! Raphael was the very first member of our 5am Club which we have started this term.

The 5am Club is an opportunity for our boarders to wake up at 5am and join Jayden Prior our McKechnie House Supervisor for a fitness session and then spend some time meditating, reading and listening to some podcasts. We have found this club to be extremely beneficial for those boarders that have now started to regularly attend.

Jordy Williams took out our Academic of the Fortnight as she has been working very hard over the last two weeks to keep on top of her Year 12 studies as she approaches the ‘business time’ of the year!

Well done Jordy, keep up the great work!

It is also the ‘business time’ of the year for all our winter sports participants! Our netball girls only have a couple more games left in the season and Maddie Williams continues to dominate in both the U17s and also in senior netball in her favoured position of Wing Attack! Ronniesha Tanami is a superstar for the Giants U13s and has also played up the grades in the U15s as well. Jessica France has been a dominating force in defence for the Giants U15s and I look forward to watching them all play this weekend!

We have a lot of our McKechnie House boys involved in local footy as they approach finals! This weekend is the last lot of round games and there are finals positions on the line for our U18s. Lachie Blue and Raphael McNamara will be hoping for a good win this Friday for Federals so they can clinch a top two position going into the finals. Our U15s Pioneers boys are sitting near the top of the U15 comp and will clinch the top seed going into finals! William Rubuntja, Jayranni Alice and Jermias Alice have all been recognised for their good form by being selected in the local Emerging Talent Squad!

We have had a lot of our Year 11 and 12 boarders over in Perth all week as they are attending the Polly Farmer excursion. It sounds like an exciting week as they get to visit a couple of the universities in Perth, get across to Rottnest Island and also go and watch the West Coast Eagles training session.

Community Service in Action

Congratulations to Sazkoda Dunn, Jordy Williams and Shanille Braybon who did a fabulous job volunteering at the Old Timers Fete earlier this month.

Together with staff member Esther, they ran the face-painting stand and had a queue of excited kids from 9am to 3pm. Well done!

Well, that’s it from me for another couple of weeks!
