Junior Learning Community

Year 2
Year 2 continues to give their personal best, work hard, and show care towards each other.
We thank you for your support with ensuring your child is at school on time for their morning check in on their given day. Remember, reading at home is a wonderful way for the children to practice the skills taught in the classroom during their literacy learning. A friendly reminder to please sign your child’s diary each time they read. In addition to reading, the children have tricky words. These will be taught in the classroom over the duration of Term 2. We would like children to practice writing and spelling these words at home.
Religion:
Children have begun the next unit of learning about Grief and Loss. This work has begun by learning about change as a natural part of life, laying the emotional groundwork for later conversations about grief and loss. Change means when something becomes different and the children associated this with the change we experience with the Seasons and the Life Cycle of a Butterfly. Children wrote sentences about changes they have experienced. Examples included losing a tooth, hair changing color, the birth of a sibling, changing schools and learning to ride a bike.
Numeracy:
Children have been developing their understanding about Addition and Subtraction. Solving problems that require regrouping and no regrouping. Students are solving problems with the aid of MAB material and empty number lines. Children will complete an assessment around this in Week 7 before beginning the next Measurement topic.
Literacy:
In comprehension, children are learning to use the skill of questioning to assist them with understanding a text. They have practiced asking questions before reading, during reading and after reading. In grammar, children are learning about speech marks. Children have enjoyed exploring the story book ‘Chooks in Dinner suits.’
Inquiry Learning:
Children continue to familiarise themselves with the new Laptops. They continue to explore ‘Teams’ and have been developing their typing skills and accuracy by using a typing app. They continue to familiarise themselves with the keyboard and touch screen.
