Target Games - Prep to Year 6
With the colder weather forcing a lot of classes to be moved indoors all year levels have been completing a variety of Target Games with each sub school working on different skills and strategies.
Junior School - using a variety of objects to throw or roll towards targets. Students have used bean bags, foxtail darts and a variety of balls as throwing and rolling objects. Targets have included hoops, cones, bowling pins and stumps.
Middle School - students have played modified target games where they have to think about whether to throw or roll towards different targets.
Senior School - students have been asked to consider attacking and defensive strategies when playing individual and team target based games.
Commonwealth Games Week in P.E
In Week 3 the MPR was the venue for our Commonwealth Games celebrations. All
The students got to participate in modified stations linked to both past and present sports played at the Commonwealth Games.
They learnt about the history of the games, the sports played and also the way in which Para sports are played at the same time at this event showcasing the importance of inclusion for all athletes.
The 5 stations were as follows:
1.Cricket - students had to hone their throwing skills with this challenge of throwing the ball at the stumps. Middle & Senior school students used blindfolds to investigate what it would be like to compete with a visual impairment.
2. Para Volleyball - students worked in teams to play seated volleyball with the focus being on working together to create the longest rally. They were not allowed to stand or be up on their knees. The students were able to highlight how strong para athletes that play this sport must be in their core.
3. Lawn Bowls - students tried their best to bowl as close to the jack as possible. Students had to make adjustments to how hard they bowled depending on the distance of each end.
4. Gymnastics - students worked either independently or in pairs to form different shapes. This station worked on their balance and coordination.
5. Basketball - students worked to score as many baskets as they could. This was a whole school challenge with the target being 1000 baskets made by the end of the week.
Class totals were as follows:
PA - 40, PB - 33, 1A - 29, 1B - 43, 1C - 34, 2A - 43, 2B - 22, 3A - 63, 3B - 57, 4A - 94, 4B - 111, 3/4C - 55, 5A - 89, 5B - 117, 6A - 93, 6B - 119
This meant our total was 1043 - what a great achievement by all the students.
Congrats to Sofia from 3/4C who was the lucky student who shot the 1000th basket!
First Aid in Schools
On Friday 24th July all classes attended a 45 minute session on First Aid. This is a free incursion run by St Johns. These lessons are tailored to each age group and provide valuable information and skills.
Senior Hoop Time
On Tuesday 21st July we had two teams represent the school at Hoop time. The All Stars went through the five round games undefeated. They played a tough Wilandra Rise side in the Grandfinal. It was an intense game where the lead changed multiple times and the final minute went forever. They held their nerve though and came out on top. A much deserved result which sees them qualify for the Regional Finals.
The Future Stars cruised through their first two games. They then needed to win the third game to make the finals. In a true show of determination the team put their bodies on the line. An after the siren free throw got them over the line and into the finals. They cruised through the Semi and into the Grand Final. Once again an intense game where they gave it their all against Casey Fields. Unfortunately beaten by a 3 point shot at the end of the game.
Both teams should be very proud of the way they played and represented the school.
Thankyou to the parents who helped coach and score, and also to our cheer squad who brought the energy to every game.
Mav - BMX World Championships
A few weeks ago our very own Mav headed off to Brisbane to compete at the BMX World Championships. Mav’s sights were aimed higher, after slipping a pedal on the gate in his 1/8 qualifying final, he finished 54th in the World. Although he is disappointed with the result, he enjoyed every moment of being amongst thousands of riders from 41 different countries. He even got to do a jersey swap with boys from the USA and Chile! Unfortunately, the 2027 World Champs are in France, so he will sit that one out. However, in Texas in 2028, we would like to start fundraising for!!
Mav’s determination and commitment to the sport that he loves is something we are very proud of.
Mav and his family would like to thank the school community for the support.
Nellie - SSV Netball Team
We are thrilled that Nellie has been selected in the School Sport Victoria Netball team to compete in the National Championships in Darwin in September. The school will be holding a Free Dress Day on Friday 28th August to raise money to assist her. Students can come in free dress and bring along a gold coin donation.
We look forward to cheering Nellie on and know she will represent herself, the school and her state with pride.

Choir and Bucket Drumming

Foundation and Junior School
Students have been practicing and practicing their dance and are READY for the big day on Tuesday 18th!
In addition to this, they have also been learning about the elements of dance, with a focus on energy. They have certainly brought the energy to their dances but they have also learnt to feel the energy of music and expressed this through listening to different pieces of instrumental music and drawing and painting how it makes them feel. We had some VERY interesting art works produced, some very dark and spooky, some very sharp and crazy and some very smooth and calm depending on the music.
The songs we listened to were:
*Calm- A Thousand Years
*Crazy and fast- William Tell-Overture
*Spooky- Aquarium (Harry Potter)
The calm music was a favourite and students were noticeably regulated afterwards.
They also have used 'energy lines' to show the energy used by the dancer in the picture to perform the move- sharp, smooth, strong or tight etc
Middle School and Senior School
Second to all the hours students have spent practicing their dances, they have also been learning about the Elements of Dance- Body, Action, Space, Time, Energy and Relationships.
They have created their favourite actions with a cut and paste body and have learnt to describe actions as locomotor or non-locomotor.
They have used 'energy lines' to show the energy used by the dancer in the picture to perform the move- sharp, smooth, strong or tight etc.
They have also responded to different dance performances including indigenous dances, hip hop, lyrical and Irish dancing. They have described the dances using vocabulary related to the elements of dance.
Foundation – The Road to Regulation
Foundation students have been exploring the road to regulation, participating in activities focused on recognising, naming and expressing emotions. Students have been identifying how different emotions can feel in their bodies and sharing their experiences through partner and group discussions.
Junior School – Resilience and Safety
Junior School students have been exploring resilience and safety through collaborative discussions and activities. Learning has included identifying community helpers, discussing safe strangers and practising ways to seek help and support. Students have worked together to share ideas, role-play scenarios and problem-solve.
Middle School – Friendships and Making Choices
Middle School students have explored the Circle of Control, considering what is within their control and what is not. They have also discussed what makes a good friend, sharing ideas about positive relationships and respectful interactions. Students have investigated advertising techniques, working together to identify strategies used to influence consumers.
Senior School – Media, Identity and Relationships
Senior School students have examined gender and racial stereotypes in advertising and discussed why representation matters in the media. Through collaborative discussions and media analysis, students have explored different perspectives. They have also practised resolving conflict respectfully, using communication, listening and problem-solving skills during group activities.
Term 3 Important Dates:
Friday 28th August- Murrup Day Birthday celebration
Thursday 10th September- Wear Yellow for R U OK? Day
There has been a lot going on in the STEM room this term with our Prep-Year 2 students doing some engineering and the Year 3-6 students getting their hands dirty in the kitchen.
Prep - Year 2 students have been busy trying to complete engineering challenges by using the different properties of materials to build bridges, cars, chairs, treehouses and more. Through all this we have been learning about the Engineering Design Cycle.
There have been some really create solutions made.
The Year 3-6 students have also enjoyed some cooking lessons in the kitchen. So far we have cooked fried rice with honey chicken, choc chip cookies and flatbread pizzas. All reports are that the food has been delicious and that kids are having a great time. They also all now know how to cook some simple foods AND WASH THE DISHES (you're welcome ) so make sure you put them to good use at home. I would encourage them all to cook one of the meals we have done at home for the family as well as clean up after themselves.
All the recipes we have used are below.
