Prep News

What a busy term it has already been for our Prep students! We are so proud of how much they are learning and growing each day. Our Prep students had a wonderful time celebrating 100 Days of School! The day was filled with fun activities as we reflected on how much we have learnt and grown over the first 100 days of our Prep journey. The students also did an amazing job writing a recount about their 100 days of school celebration. We encourage you to take a look at this wonderful piece of writing when it is released as a learning task on Compass.

In Mathematics, we have been developing our understanding of subtraction and data. Students have been practising subtraction strategies and learning how to collect, interpret and represent data using pictographs. In addition to this, students have been continuing to work towards their maths toolbox goals on number sense. 

In Phonics, we have been consolidating our knowledge of segmenting and blending while introducing digraphs. The students are becoming increasingly confident in using these skills to support their reading and spelling.

In Literacy, we have been exploring rich vocabulary and writing with purpose and meaning. We have also been linking our Literacy learning with Core Knowledge, where students are investigating story elements through familiar fairy tales and identifying characters, settings, problems and solutions. We also enjoyed a very exciting Flying Bookworm incursion, which linked beautifully with our Literacy and Core Knowledge learning.

In Spanish, students have been learning to count through engaging songs, stories and games. These fun and interactive activities are helping to build their confidence and enjoyment of learning a new language.

Year 1 & 2 News

Our Year 1 and 2 students had an exciting, hands-on learning experience during our recent Toys Incursion! As part of our Physical Sciences learning, students explored how forces such as push, pull, gravity and friction can make objects move, change direction or stop.

Students rotated through a variety of engaging activities, investigating and experimenting with how things move. They used nuts and bolts to build robots and trains, created marble runs using magnets, and carefully completed the Buzz Wire challenge without touching the electric wire with their wand.

There was plenty of fun as students stomped on randomly popping stumps, spun on a wheel using ball bearings, and used magnets and metal pieces to create designs.

It was wonderful to see students making predictions, testing their ideas, solving problems and working collaboratively. The incursion provided a fantastic opportunity for our students to explore the science behind toys through play, curiosity and hands-on discovery!
