Throughout July, communities around the world celebrate Disability Month; a time to recognise and celebrate the strengths, achievements and contributions of people with disability. Disability Month encourages us to appreciate that every person is unique and that diversity makes our communities stronger. It is also an opportunity to challenge stereotypes, promote inclusion and recognise that everyone deserves to feel respected, valued and able to participate fully in school and community life.
The Disability Flag represents people with any disability. The Disability Flag is a charcoal grey flag bisected diagonally from the top-left corner to the lower-right corner by five parallel stripes in red, pale gold, pale grey, light blue, and green. The diagonal bands are intended to signify "cutting across barriers that disabled people face."
Color Meanings
Families can support Disability Month by having open conversations about inclusion, celebrating the unique strengths of each family member and encouraging children to value kindness, empathy and respect. Together, we can continue to build a school community where differences are celebrated, everyone feels welcome, and every child knows they belong.
First Whittlesea World for Term 3: Foundation - Year 2
This week, we held our first Whittlesea World for Term 3. It was fantastic to see many students trade in their Golden Tickets for a variety of items such as sports cards, texta packs, fidgets, notebooks, trinkets, and a 'Principal for the Morning' award. Well done to all students who have continued to receive Golden Tickets for demonstrating our school expectations of 'Do Your Best', 'Respect Your School', and 'Help Others Succeed'. A big thank you also to our school leaders for their continued support in helping run Whittlesea World.
Please note that we have had to postpone the Years 3-6 Whittlesea World to next week, Week 4, Wednesday. We hope to see all Years 3-6 students trading in their Golden Tickets then.
