Year 5/6 Cluster News

HOME INQUIRY:

Inquiry: Have a discussion with your child about how technology has changed over time and what you think are the 10 most important inventions in the last 200 years.

Reading: Aim for 20 minutes minimum reading per night. We encourage students to read aloud, either to themselves or a parent.

Mathematics: Working on general multiplication skills with the goal for automaticity of the facts up to x12

 Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop:

In Readers and Writer’s workshop, students will analyse information texts to identify techniques such as factual language, topic-specific vocabulary, text structure, and the use of examples and evidence, and consider how these features support the reader’s understanding. These skills will be important as they plan and write their own information reports.

Mathematics:

Students have been focussing on capacity and have been predicting and measuring using liquid. Students will convert between units of measurement. Next week, students will begin exploring fractions.

Inquiry: Students will investigate the difference between science and technology, and explore how scientific knowledge leads to new innovations. They will examine how advancements have changed the way we live, work, and communicate, and consider both the benefits and challenges that come with these developments. Throughout the unit, students will also explore how scientific thinking supports problem-solving and drives future innovation.

iPads: Please ensure your child has working headphones and a keyboard. The iPad keyboard will be important in the development of keyboard typing skills which will be part of their class learning. The headphones will be regularly used in class for a variety of purposes.  Please check the connection of the headphones with the iPad as newer versions of iPads have a different connection point.

Uniform:

Please ensure your child is in correct school uniform, which includes correct formal shoes on Monday and Wednesday and no additional jewellery. Please refer to the Uniform Guidelines located on the school’s website. There have been students wearing incorrect uniform, including socks and shoes and it would be appreciated if these could be rectified.  (https://www.goldengrove.sa.edu.au/school-life/uniform/

We are anticipating the arrival of the new school jackets in around 3 weeks time, ready for the colder weather. This new style is more formal and will be able to be worn on formal and sports uniform days.
