Year 1/2 Cluster News 

Welcome to Term 2. 

Hats 

These have been sent home for washing, however they are needed at school on days when the UV is high. Please send them back to school when they have been washed and we will store them here. 

Year 1/2HZ 

Mrs Hall will be working Mondays – Thursdays this term and Mrs Zimmer will be in on Fridays. 

Vision Testing – permission note 

Year 1 students will receive a note about vision testing this week. Mr K does this testing at school. This is an opportunity to pick up vision concerns that may be impacting your child’s learning. It is an initial screening and the next step would be to visit an optometrist. If your child missed the testing last year, please ask for a note. 

Please return the permission note as soon as possible.

Home Inquiry   

What foods do you grow in your garden? What do you do with these foods to prepare them for eating or drinking? Can you draw pictures or take photos and share these with the class. 

Reading: every night for 10-15 minutes. Please listen to your child read the decodable books and ask the ‘check for understanding’ questions at the back. The ‘Interest books' with coloured round stickers on the front may need to be read together.

Grammar Focus 

Year 1: pronouns, initial blends 

Year 2: plurals, possessive adjectives 

Christian Studies; Christian Beliefs 

Central Idea: Christians believe God is one God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. 

In this unit, students begin inquiring into who God is, starting with learning about creation of the world. 

Writer’s and Reader’s Workshop:  

We are conferencing with students. This involves spending time with each child individually to share successes in their writing and reading and setting the next goals. 

Mathematics:  

Year 1 and Year 2 Students inquire into data representation e.g. tally marks, reading a graph. 

Unit of Inquiry: How We Organise Ourselves 

Students are beginning an inquiry into the people and places involved in food production. What do we know (prior knowledge)? Students explain their understanding about where common foods/drinks originate e.g. oranges, milk, potatoes.

During the year we have excursions, a Year 1 Sleepover and a Year 2 Camp. If you are interested in volunteering, you must have the following checks up to date. Contact the office if you have any questions.
