RSL ANZAC Day Schools Ceremony

Will

This week at school we went to the RSL for an ANZAC Day ceremony. The ceremony was good, and every school did something. They told a bunch of stories of army veterans that saved a bunch of lives and really, really wanted to join the army. Then we had sausages and soft drink after. We played with friends from other schools.

On the 6-5-26, 5/6 SU was split up, with the 6’s going to an ANZAC ceremony at the RSL, and the 5’s having a sub. When we got there, we had to wait a little, with a bagpipe player to listen to in the background. When we started, there were some speeches, featuring Cindy McLeash and Aaron Violi, then the different schools did their things, we placed our poppies and wreaths and there were some poems, like In Flander’s Fields by UYSC students. After the main event, we were given sausages in bread and soft drinks, and told to mingle. Then we went back to school and continued as normal!

On Wednesday, the sixth of May, the grade sixes from all around the Yarra Valley went to the R.S.L (Returned Services League) for a ANZAC ceremony. At the R.S.L there were returned war veterans, Cindy McLeish, Aaron Violi, and REAL current soldiers. There were also tons of different schools, such as Seville P.S. (primary school), Don valley P.S, Woori Yallok P.S, Wesburn P.S, Yarra Junction P.S, Warburton P.S, and a couple of Upper Yarra students. Then we sat down and listened to some students read preprepared scripts, and  war verarans telling their stories about what it was like to be forced to go to the army at a very young age sometimes as young as 14. Afterwards we got some sausages in bread and a can of soft drink, and we got to have a bit of a play. I spent my time chatting with ms durrant who used to work at our school, some people I knew out of school.  i had a chat to the soldiers, they look all mean and serious but they are actually really nice. I and a few other people got a soldier to sign the back of our badge. A kind man was also handing out little bears but there wasnt enough for everybody so we were only able to get 5 bears for 14 kids so mr boyhan is going to pulls names out of a hat to decide wh gets some. My highlight of the day was probably the soldiers.

The ceremony was great there were soldiers with real guns who marched up and stood in a pisition the whole time, one of the soilders where moved off and replaced by another soldier I didn’t really see what happend but he looked a bit wobbley when he was taken off. The veterens and the people who worked for the state or something said some thing. The actual war veterans talked about some of the battles the served in as well as ones they didn’t all the schools had something to do I didn’t do anything but some kids did. After the ceremony we got some sausages in bread with a can of Kirks. Me and a few of my friends got the back of our badges signed by some of the real soldiers. We had to go on a whole scavenger hunt to find a pen to get our badges signed. After that it was time to go and that was it.

ANZAC day at Upper Yarra R.S.L…………

On the 6th of May, 2026. The grade six students from the Upper Yarra district came to the R.S.L for an army memorial. St josephs shared a bus with Yarra Junction Primary school. Once we all rocked up, we all sat down with our picnic mats infront of the memorial. We sat down and waited for the ceremony to start. Once it started, the ex-soldiers marched in. Everyone was listening to all of the other schools speak and then Maddi and Joe took the wreath up and layed it down in honor to our school. After we layed down the poppies, it was my turn to speak.

I went up and Aaron Violi gave me a sheet of paper to read the prayer of Saint Francis off of. I was very nervous but apparently I was good so I was very overjoyed.

After the ceremony we had Sausages and Soft Drinks! It was very good and we got to say “hello” to the soldiers.

One of them had the cutest baby and she was very cute and little!

Then we got to play for a little bit on the playground and me and Lacey were just doing cartwheels and handstands.

Then we saw Mrs Durrant and she was doing well!

She is now at Warburton Primary school and she is the Wellbeing teacher/leader.

The soldiers then signed our school badges with a pen but it had to be on the back of them.

I think everyopne enjoyed it! It was fun! But then we had to go back to school….(*cry cry)

Blooket

On Monday and Tuesday and Wednesday we played a booklet so on Monday for maths we did a math booklet where we answered questions and it was a maths theme. It was about fractions and what number was bigger than the other. It went for 7mins and I got 13th place. We did a game mode when you answer a question and if you get it wrong you get nothing if you get it correct you get gold you can either swap with players or take 25% from them or lose gold or get more gold and on Tuesday we did a battle one were you can get upgrades and get points and when you get enough you get a question you get monsters from fighting and the person with the most points wins and it lasted 7 mins and we did the gold one on Wednesday.

Yesterday, on May 6th, the year 6’s went to the RSL in Wesy and the 5s stayed at school.

When the 6’s left the 5’s got given some work to do. We had to read the book that we were reading for ten min then write a recount about what happened so far. Then we had to do a gold rush worksheet then we had to make sideshow with ‘hood’ words. I finished all that right at eating time the the 5’s went out to play. Once we came back inside we finished the rest of the work which was ‘My Numrecy’. After we finished that we got to some games on our computers. Then the 6’s came back at 12:30 after that it was a normal day. THE END

May 6, 2026 - Samson

Yesterday, we stayed at school because the grade 6’s went to the RSL for an ANZAC day thingy. When the year 6’s left, then next we started doing a bit of our work that was 10 minutes of reading. Then after we finished that we had to write a review on the book. It was actually quite fun because i was reading in the quiet corner with a few of my friends. Then we did this activity where we did a worksheet on the life on the victorian gold fields. That was one of my favorite activities of the day, I dont know why but it was actually really fun. Then we had about 10 - 15 minutes to work on a slideshow that had all the hood words in it. I did it quite quickly because I’m quite good at poster making so yeah. Then after I finished that I had a bit more time because I was really quick so I played a small bit of Blooket on my own. Then we had some fruit and we went out to play where most people including me played soccer. Then we moved onto maths where we did essential assessment and i got a trophy and that was my last my numeracy lesson so yeah that was good.

3D Shape

This week in Mathematics, the Year 5/6 students have been exploring 3D shape nets. While this can be a challenging topic, students have shown great persistence and curiosity as they investigated how 2D shapes can fold together to create 3D objects.

Using a range of hands-on manipulatives, including digital activities on the computers, concrete 2D shapes, and paper cutting and folding tasks, students have been experimenting with different nets and discovering which designs successfully form 3D shapes. It has been wonderful to see students problem-solving, collaborating, and learning through trial and error.
