News from Foundation

Wow, what a great two weeks we have had in Foundation, and we are straight back into all the fun learning of Term 2!
The Eleventh Hour
One of the literature books we have done this Term so far has been The Eleventh Hour, which is a story about Horace the elephant having a birthday party for his 11th birthday. He had eleven games and a big feast! However, someone ate all the food! But luckily, Horace made a secret cake and sandwiches to share with his friends.
The Foundation students enjoyed making some birthday cupcakes for Horace with Mr Foley!
Maths Groups
In Foundation, the students have been enjoying participating in some fun maths games that we call 'Maintenance Time'. During Maintenance time, the Foundation students are practising the mathematical skills they have learned and ensuring that these skills stay in their long-term memory. Some of the skills they have been working on are:
- Matching numbers and quantities
- Practising Ten Friends (0 & 10, 1 & 9, 2 & 8, 3 & 7, 4 & 6, 5 & 5)
- Subetising (knowing the number of objects without counting)
- Number formation
- Part-whole numbers (knowing 5 can be made with 2 & 3)
Here are some photos of the Foundations engaging in some of the games.
Sentence Writing
Wow! The Foundation students have been doing excellently in their writing! Forming letters correctly, writing on the lines and much more! Here are some pictures of our sentence writing we have been doing. These sentences were focusing on the letter 'd'.
