News from One/Two

Week 3 is complete! The past couple of weeks have been incredibly busy, but we’ve had a wonderful time.
Thank you for your ongoing support, particularly with home reading and spelling practice.
Friendship Groups
What I can and cannot control - Yellow Group
During friendship groups, we focused on how we can recognise emotions such as anger and how we can respond to those emotions. Some things we just cannot control, and that's okay, we just need to focus on what we can do to help ourselves and others!
Literacy
In spelling, we are becoming more confident with reading and writing our tricky words.
This week, we have been doing a lot of practice on our writing of statements and questions. Over the last two days, we have been learning about conjunctions and how they can link our ideas to create a complex sentence. The connecting words we have been focusing on are because, and, so and but.
Maths
The past two weeks we have been extending our mathematical learning to reading and writing four-digit numbers.
Extension
Some of us have been exploring long addition and adding up to 3 digit numbers together. This has been a challenge but we have quickly picked up how to regroup our ones into tens so that we can add larger numbers!
Religion
This week with Mother’s Day coming up our focus was on how we can see Mary in the way we speak and connect with our own mums. We created some beautiful Mary’s and wrote some characteristics and features of Mary that we learnt from the prayers and pictures.
Inquiry
This term 1/2s are combining with the Foundation class for our inquiry unit. To start off the unit the students explored a variety of wild animals. We read trhgouh the books in the library and watched some videos to teach us about the habitat of some wild animals. Our goal was to become zookeepers and work together to design an exhibit as if our wild animal were at the zoo.
