Learning & Teaching

Leader: Amie Fleming

On Monday April 20th, our staff took part in the Catholic Education Sandhurst Ambitiously Sandhurst Learning and Teaching Seminar.

During the day, teachers continued their professional learning with Dr Jared Cooney Horvath, building on ideas introduced last year. He shared insights from his research on how the brain learns, helping staff better understand how teaching practices can support student learning. The session explored what motivates learning, how rewards and mindset can impact students, and encouraged reflection on homework and the use of technology in the classroom.

Our second session, led by Dr Nathaniel Swain, focused on the importance of clear, structured whole-class teaching. Staff explored how this approach supports all learners, particularly those who need extra support, and how strong teaching practices can help create more inclusive classrooms.

In the final session, Teach Well worked with staff on practical classroom strategies. Teachers focused on ways to ensure all students are actively involved in their learning, including clear instructions, consistent routines, and regularly checking for understanding.

Overall, it was a valuable day of learning for our staff. It provided practical ideas and strengthened our shared understanding of how students learn best. We are excited to bring this learning into our classrooms as we continue to support every child to grow and achieve their best.
