Principal's Report

Staffing Update
After 11 years working at LPS in the office, and even much longer that the Kilby family has been connected to the school, we say good-bye to Michelle. Michelle is moving to a slightly different role at EMC. We wish her all the best in her new role.
After more than 18 months as the Acting Principal, I am beyond thrilled to accept the position of substantive Principal. I am so proud to lead our school and look forward to continuing to work with our wonderful community.
Parking
I have been requested by the Health and Wellbeing Centre to remind our Langwarrin parents to not park in their car park. It has been evident that some patients with a disability or injury have not had access to the carpark in order to attend their appointment.
Also concerning is that there have been a number of ‘near misses’ and ‘close calls’ with students running through there.
We will endeavour to have a member of leadership staff in the area to increase safety also.
Thank you for you cooperation and care in this circumstance.
Lunch Time Clubs
This term we have many alternative activities for students to participate in. These include: choir, quiet room, farm, Auslan and coding. This is in addition to being able to utilise all the outside spaces including our shaded seating area. We also have our Year 5 play leaders running activities at lunch time for the P-2 students. There are lots of options at LPS for students to spend their lunch time.
Payment cut offs for activities, incursions and excursions
Once again, I find myself in the situation of saying ‘NO’ to parents when they request to make a payment after an event has closed off on QKR. It is certainly not pleasant for myself or any of the leadership team to refuse a child to attend, but allowing late attendees causes extra work specifically on the office staff, leads to inaccurate lists and the chance of errors of missed medications and staffing ratio inaccuracy. For your reference this is our process:
- The office will set up all bookings on QKR and email parents to advise it has opened on QKR with 4 weeks’ notice for the parents to pay
- Teachers to send reminders of the events and payment in their weekly emails
- The office will put a post of on Facebook 1 week out from cut off on QKR
- The office will send an email to the teachers to remind the children that haven’t paid or given permission.
- The office will send a direct SMS 4 days out to families that have not paid
- The event will close off QKR at 4pm on the scheduled date.
The day after the closing (which is a week before your excursion/incursion) the office will supply class teachers with a list of students not attending.
Class teachers then make necessary lists for attendees and non attendees, First aid lists are actioned. DET risk assessments are submitted and staffing ratios are confirmed.
If you experience any issues, error messages, password failures, ‘glitches’ whilst trying to make a payment, please contact us immediately (before the cut off date) and we will assist you to ensure your payment is received on time.
If you call our office after the payment closure date, the activity has expired from QKR and cannot be accessed by you.
I feel we have a very thorough process that is clear and regular. But if you have any suggestions for improvement I welcome your feedback to this process.
School Tours and Enrolments for 2027
We are very keen to know what our sibling enrolments are likely to be for 2027 so we encourage you to enrol your child as soon as possible. This will assist greatly with our forward planning! We have school tours happening for new families interested in enrolling in our school. Put the word out there and let everyone know all the great things we do here at Langy! To book a tour please call by the office and see one of our lovely office team.
