The Fathering Project - Term 4

Sportsfest – A Roaring Success at Mackellar!

What a fantastic afternoon of fun, laughter and connection at our recent Sportsfest event! We were thrilled with the incredible turnout of dads and their children, who came together to enjoy an afternoon of exciting games and activities. It was heartwarming to see so many fathers spending quality time with their children, sharing laughs, getting active and creating special memories together.

A huge thank you to Tom Ruijs, Dadfit Head of Programs, and Sam Story, Program Coordinator, who did a wonderful job facilitating the afternoon's games and activities. Tom and Sam were particularly impressed by the turnout, commenting that Mackellar had attracted the highest number of participants of any school they had visited! They also recognised from the outset how much our school values and encourages the involvement of fathers in their children's lives. What wonderful feedback for our school community!

The afternoon kicked off with a lively game of ‘Keepy Uppy’, where dads were divided into two teams, wearing either blue or orange sweatbands. The challenge was simple – keep as many balls in the air as possible without letting them touch the ground! Both teams gave it their all, but it was the Blue Team that claimed victory!

Next came a hilarious animal game, where children took turns choosing different animals for everyone to imitate. There was plenty of laughter as dads and kids enthusiastically transformed themselves into all sorts of creatures!

The fun continued with an energetic game of dodgeball – dads versus kids! The competition was fierce, with a few 'cheeky' children sneaking across the halfway line! Anyone hit by the ball had to freeze like a statue, adding an extra element of fun to the game.

To finish off the afternoon, everyone participated in basketball activities, rotating through three stations focusing on dribbling, passing and shooting. It was wonderful to see dads and children encouraging one another, developing their skills and enjoying some friendly competition.

A heartfelt thank you to all the dads and children who joined us and helped make Sportsfest such a special and memorable event. Your enthusiasm, energy and willingness to get involved made the afternoon a tremendous success.

At Mackellar Primary School, we recognise the important role fathers and father figures play in their children's lives and events like Sportsfest provide a wonderful opportunity to strengthen these special relationships while building a connected and supportive school community.

More Exciting Dadfit Sessions Coming This Term!

The fun doesn't stop with Sportsfest! We are excited to announce that a five-week Dadfit program exclusively for dads will commence on Monday 9 November, from 7:00pm to 9:00pm in the Mackellar gymnasium.

These sessions are designed especially for dads, providing a wonderful opportunity to connect with other fathers in a relaxed, friendly and supportive environment. Each session will begin with some physical activity, followed by meaningful conversations about fatherhood, including ways to strengthen relationships with their children and become the best dads they can be.

Please note that this program is strictly for dads only and children will not be able to attend.

We encourage all dads to come along, get active, share experiences and enjoy this valuable opportunity to learn and connect with others!
