What's Happening In Grade 6?

From exploring how tsunamis form to uncovering the mysteries of Paul Jennings’ Grandad’s Gifts, our Grade 6 students have been busy in Reading and Writing this term! Students have strengthened their explanation writing skills before diving into narratives, exploring how descriptive language, dialogue and similes bring stories to life. They are now putting these skills into practice, creating their own mystery narratives filled with interesting characters, unexpected twists and suspenseful events!

This term in interschool sport, students have been coaching the Grade 4s and 5s in preparation for next year. It’s been wonderful to see them sharing their skills, showing leadership and encouraging our younger students to work as a team. Well done to everyone involved.

The Grade 6’s have wrapped up their Inquiry unit on Chemical and Physical Science and are embarking on a new unit of Geography.  Students will be looking at how environments shape societies around the world, as well as their politics and cultures.

Maths has focused strongly on multiplicative thinking and developing fluency with focus on multiplication tables.  Students will be looking at order of operations and algebra.
