Day for Daniel - A Sea of Red at Mackellar Primary School!

Today, Mackellar Primary School proudly showed its support for Day for Daniel, a national day dedicated to raising awareness about child safety and empowering children with the knowledge and skills to stay safe in public, at school and online.

It was wonderful to see our school community come together, with students and staff dressed in red, the colour associated with Day for Daniel, to show their support for this important cause.

We were fortunate to welcome two members of the Caroline Springs Proactive Policing Unit at our assembly, who spoke to our students about the importance of personal safety, recognising unsafe situations and knowing where to seek help. Their presentation reinforced the important message that every child has the right to feel safe and that there are trusted adults they can turn to whenever they feel worried, uncomfortable or unsafe.

Following assembly, students also had the opportunity to engage in age-appropriate classroom discussions and activities that reinforced important child safety messages and encouraged them to speak up when something doesn't feel right.

We encourage families to continue these important conversations at home by talking with their children about personal safety, identifying trusted adults and developing the confidence and skills to make safe choices in everyday situations.
