Principal's Report

Dear Parents and Carers,
In the time between newsletters, we have had two amazing events here at Mackellar Primary School. showcasing our amazing school and community.
Firstly our Sportsfest where dads and their children had an afternoon of fun and activity as the lead-up event to our Dadfit program starting in November. This event saw dozens of dads and children having a blast enjoying the benefits of physical activity, and in playing together. Thank you to everyone who came along to make the event so successful.
Then of course last Thursday we had our art show 'Spettacolo, Spettacolo' and what a show it was. The hallways and gym were lined with amazing student art work, and hundreds of family members and friends came along. We had special guests such as our local member Natalie Hutchins, local principals and Departmental staff. The canteen did a roaring trade selling Italian food, Taylors Lakes Secondary College Band entertained us, the weather was perfect and everyone had a great time.
What a celebration of art it was and what a brilliant job Sally Wilson did as curator. It really was the artistic highlight of the year. A huge congratulations to Sally and her team and a big thank you and well done to each and every artist who showcased their work.
Recently information was sent home for parents of students currently in grade 4 and 5 regarding next year's camp. The current grade 4 and 5 students are heading to Phillip Island next May and whilst that is some time off, the expected cost will be over $600. Parents are able to use the Camps, Sports and Excursion Fund or a payment plan to assist with the cost. If you are interested in your child attending please contact the office so we can finalise numbers. Places are limited due to bus constraints.
Finally, a reminder that this coming Friday and Monday are pupil free days with TheirCare available for supervision. With Tuesday being Melbourne Cup Day, this gives students a five day break in the middle of term.
Kind regards
Simon McGlade
