The Lakeside Recreation Centre buzzed with excitement on Tuesday 21 October as five Year 5 and 6 teams from All Saints' College sent competed in the highly anticipated SSWA School Slam Series Basketball event. The day was filled with thrilling games, outstanding sportsmanship and memorable performances from all our teams.

Our Girls’ A Team had a tremendous carnival, making it all the way to the grand final against a very strong Iona team. The girls played a brilliant match and narrowly went down in overtime. Their effort has earned them an invitation to the next stage of the event, the SSWA Champions Cup on Monday 24 November at Bendat Basketball Centre, when teams from all over the state will compete.

Our Boys’ A and Boys’ C teams both battled their way into the semi-finals. While they were unfortunately edged out, their dedication and hard work were evident in every game, and they represented the College with pride.

We are grateful to all the coaches, parents and supporters who made this day possible. A special thank you to our coaches, Mr Noah Dean, Mr Zac Scott, Mr Mike Pinker, Mr Jacob Feist and Mr Russ Haxby, for their superb guidance and support. Congratulations to all our players. We look forward to seeing our girls compete at the Champions Cup in November!

On Tuesday 14 October, Ms Lee Beazley, Library Officer at Bull Creek Library, came to share the magic of story books with Kindergarten students and their parents in Nexus-J. She explained the power of story books for enhancing children's language development and understanding of the world, as well as learning to read successfully. Lee's story reading modelled the impact reading to children makes, providing a space to explore the unknown in a safe and supportive environment with trusted adults. The children loved to predict what would happen, feel a little scared at times, and then be reassured by the end of the stories!

On Tuesday 20 October, Mrs Severn’s Year 1 class boarded Mr Christie’s school bus for a special visit to Gordon Lodge at RAAFA Retirement Village. The children were thrilled to finally meet the residents after their visit was postponed last term due to illness.

The morning began with a warm performance of the class’s welcome song, Wanju, followed by several confident piano solos from students. Each child brought a drawing to gift to the residents before joining in a variety of shared activities. Students and residents played giant games of snakes and ladders, enjoyed balloon tennis and cheered each other on during mini golf. Origami creations by the students were also a hit with the residents.

The room was filled with laughter, conversation and connection. The residents and carers were uplifted by the beautiful manners, engaging conversations and joyful energy of our Year 1 students who were wonderful ambassadors for All Saints’ College.
