Principal Report

PEP HUNGERFORD

The school has been alive over the past few weeks with drums, dragons, and dancing as we prepare for our annual Autumnal Festival of Courage. Our festivals serve as important anchor points in the rhythm of the school year, connecting us to ourselves, our community, and the seasonal and cosmic cycles. While these celebrations are perhaps the most outwardly visible expression of this work, ritual and rhythm are woven through each week, each day, and even each lesson.

A familiar verse, the lighting of a candle, a song, or a movement, placed consistently and consciously, brings a deep sense of security to the children. They know what is coming, they know how we do things, and as a result can relax and breathe more fully into their day and their learning. Rhythm is truly a health‑bringing force, and one that is so easily lost in the busy pace of modern life.

This week also brought the joy and excitement of the Roman Markets. Brook, Peter, and Class 6 did an exceptional job of transporting us all back to ancient Rome, with sword fighting, puppet shows, jesters, and much more. The excitement was palpable, and the considerable effort put in by Class 6 was deeply appreciated by all.

As we close the term, I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all my colleagues…teachers, assistants, office staff, and grounds helpers….all the dedicated individuals who come together each day to offer their best selves for our children and our community and making The Alice Springs Steiner School a truly wonderful corner of the world.

I hope everyone enjoys a safe and blessed Easter period. We look forward to seeing you all next term.
