Hello Cassia families,
Would you believe we are already at the end of term one? And what a big term it has been! Over the last week or two, I have witnessed the shift from the start of the year, when everyone was new and learning our rhythm and building friendships to find their place in the class, to now, where the rhythm is in everyone's bodies, and everyone is looking more ‘at home’ and comfortable in the group. It has been such a joy to watch and reflect on this process unraveling over the weeks.
We have been thoroughly enjoying the autumn feeling in the air, and it seems the itchy grubs do not enjoy it as much as we do, which is great! They have been the bane of the term. One thing I can say is that we certainly do have some resilient Cassia children!
Today we celebrate our Autumn Harvest Festival, which has been a big and special part of our work over the last 3 weeks. The children have been preparing with songs and circles, harvest stories, and grinding wheat every day to make flour for the dough that our buns, which we will share today, are made from. They have also been churning cream into butter to go with them. All of these hands-on activities are very meaningful to the children. They allow them to experience food as something made slowly and with care, rather than something that just appears from a packet. It also connects the children to the seasons and the natural world, and helps nurture gratitude for the earth, the sun, and all the work that goes into feeding us. So, we end the term on a wholesome, celebratory note, together and filled with gratitude.
Thank you for a wonderful first term.
Have a restful and restorative holiday break and happy easter!
We look forward to seeing all those bright little faces next term on Tuesday, the 14th of April.
