Project Compassion is an annual fundraiser run by Caritas Australia during Lent that raises funds to assist people living in poverty worldwide.

The 2026 fundraisers have a focus on challenges related to global water security.

On Tuesday, the whole school participated in Project Compassion's BIG Water Walk to raise funds to support people in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific who must walk long distances every day to collect clean water. This involved level groups and individual students and teachers carrying buckets of water around Walter Galt Reserve and our school oval, nonstop, from the beginning of the day until 3:30 pm. Outside of raising money to help others, our aim was to build greater awareness and understanding of the journey millions of people take to collect safe, clean drinking water.

As we also celebrate Catholic Education Week, this fundraiser provides a meaningful opportunity to witness our faith in action. It reflects the Gospel values we strive to live by each day—compassion, justice, service, and love for others. Through this experience, our students are not only learning about these values but actively living them, recognising their ability to bring hope and positive change to the world around them.

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of the SJV community, we will make a real difference in the lives of many children. Thank you so much for your commitment to this cause- $1987 is an enormous achievement and will be very much appreciated by Caritas Australia, who work tirelessly to improve conditions for millions of vulnerable adults and children, trying to restore Christ's vision of justice and peace.

Thank you to Jill Hannan, who was the catalyst for this wonderful social justice initiative, and to Mick Schinck for his support and assistance.

A very special thank you to our wonderful PFA, who provided Zooper Doopers for the children at the end of the day. We are so very grateful for your thoughtfulness and steadfast support.

This initiative reminds our students that even small acts of generosity can make a significant difference in the lives of others. By contributing to this cause, we are standing in solidarity with those who face daily challenges and responding to Jesus’ call to care for the most vulnerable.
