Art Club Activities 

August has been a creative month in Art Club, with students exploring a range of hands-on artmaking techniques and materials. They screen printed their own designs onto t-shirts, creating wearable art! 

Students also created interesting compositions using magazine ink and hand-cut stencils, developing imaginative patterns and layered images. In clay, they designed unique characters and crafted decorative wind chimes, combining creativity with practical making skills. 

It has been wonderful to see students sharing ideas, building confidence and enjoying the opportunity to express themselves through art. 

Future Art Competition: Shortlist Announced 

We’re thrilled to announce the shortlisted entries for this year’s Art Competition, themed “The Future”. 

Student work has been exceptional, exploring ideas about technology, environment, identity, and life beyond today. The shortlist reflects diverse interpretations of the theme, from futuristic cityscapes to imaginative reworkings of everyday life. 

Our four shortlisted artists are: 

• Daksh Chilukuri 
• Clifford Ogilvie  
• Landon Weston 
• Loopa Nabubie  

Winners will be announced on the SPC Arts Instagram page so keep an eye out for the reveal. Congratulations to all shortlisted artists and thank you to everyone who entered.

Year 10 3D Art: 'Soundsuits'

Year 10 3D Art students have created unique wearable sculptures inspired by the imaginative work of artist Nick Cave. Under the expert guidance of Art Teacher, Rebecca Warr, the students used plaster to mould a body form, then added mixed media made from every day and recycled materials. 

Like suits of armour, these artworks are designed to camouflage the body. Nick Cave calls them 'Soundsuits' because the materials rattle, rustle and make sounds as the wearer moves. 

The Year 10 Soundsuits are currently on display in the small gallery space underneath the KRC, near the canteen. Be sure to take a look!

ATOM Awards

Since 1982, the ATOM (Australian Teachers of Media) Awards have recognised excellence in screen content across Australia and New Zealand, making them the second-longest-running screen awards program in the country. They honour students, educators, independent creators and industry professionals’ side by side, reflecting a strong commitment to innovation, creativity, storytelling and media literacy. 

2026 Key Dates: 

• Call for entries: Monday 13 July 2026 
• Close of entries: Friday 25 September 2026 
• Finalists announced: Tuesday 6 October 2026 
• Awards and Presentation Night: Friday 30 October 2026
