🔷 Mathematics

It has been a busy and hands-on few weeks in Mathematics as students have been exploring 2D shapes and their properties! We have been learning how to identify and describe different shapes by looking at their features, including the number of sides and corners (vertices) they have. Students have been developing their understanding by comparing different shapes and noticing what makes each one unique.

To put our learning into practice, students have had lots of opportunities to get creative! They designed their own shape monsters, carefully choosing shapes to create different body parts and features. We also used sticks to build 2D shapes, helping students explore how the sides of shapes can be connected and arranged. Students then used their knowledge of 2D shapes to design and draw houses and buildings, incorporating a variety of shapes into their creations. 

🌱 STEM

In STEM, students have continued learning about the life cycles of living things and how they grow and change throughout their lives. We have explored the life cycle of a kangaroo, discussing the different stages a kangaroo goes through as it grows from a joey into an adult. 

We have also been investigating the life cycle of plants, learning about how a tiny seed can eventually grow into a mature plant. To make this learning more hands-on, each classroom has created its very own Sprout House! Students have planted seeds and are observing what happens as they receive the things they need to grow, particularly sunlight and water.

Over the coming weeks, students will have the opportunity to observe and record changes as their seeds germinate, sprout and begin to grow, allowing them to see the plant life cycle happening right before their eyes!
