Middle Learning Community

Wow, we can't believe that we are already at the end of Term One. Thank you to all our families for their support during this term.
We are very proud of all the children who participated in the Holy Week performance, they did a great job explaining the story of Jesus Washing the Feet & The Last Supper.
The children also participated in 'The Big Water Walk' this afternoon. They walked in solidarity for the children across the world who have to walk kilometers for fresh water.
Thank you for your generosity in allowing your children to donate to Project Compassion.
We hope that all our families have a wonderful Easter Holiday.
Year 3
We have officially finished reading our text, ‘Matilda’. The children should be proud of how they engaged with this text. To celebrate a BIG term of learning, we watched the movie Matilda today and discussed the similarities and differences between the novel and the movie. We have spent the last few weeks composing a persuasive text with the topic “Books are better than screens”. They have been able to brainstorm great arguments to show that they are either ‘for’ or ‘against’ this topic.
We will start next Term with reading the book “Off We Go Around Australia”. You might like to discuss with your child different places where you have visited around Australia as this might help with discussions in class.
In Maths, we started our new topic of Time and learning about elapsed time. A way to tie this into home life is to talk about how long different activities take. Eg: If you left home at 8.20 and arrived to school at 8.30 - how long did the trip take?
Last week, Year 3 attended week day mass. The students continued to learn about Lent and Easter through Father Jun Jun’s homily. We are very proud of all the children for either participating reverently, reading the prayers of the faithful or taking the offertory to Father. We were then fortunate to have Father Jun Jun visit our classroom and answer lots of our questions about Lent and Easter. Father spoke about the importance of Prayer, Fasting (what we give up for Lent) and Almsgiving (giving back to others like Project Compassion or the Good Friday Appeal).
Year 4
In Literacy, we have been reading Leo and Ralph. We have been looking at similes and writing direct speech. Students have been planning and writing their introduction and their action paragraph to their own narrative about an imaginary friend.
In Maths, we have continued our unit on multiplication and division. It has been great to see so many of the students practicing their times tables at home and bringing it in to show us to further extend their knowledge and to help them pass their Karate Ninja Times Table challenge.
Thank you to all the families who attended the Confirmation and Eucharist Meeting on Tuesday 24th March. We look forward to supporting the students in their faith journey. The after-school groups will continue after the holidays in the week beginning 20th April. Just a reminder that if you are unable to attend an after-school session, please let your child’s classroom teacher know and we can arrange for an alternative day to catch up on that lesson. edwardharding@sjcobram.catholic.edu.au
