Junior Learning Community

Year 1

We’ve had such an exciting and busy couple of weeks in Grade One!

Our Fete performance was a huge success, we absolutely smashed it! We hope all our parents, grandparents, carers, and friends felt extra special during our VIP song. The students were so proud to perform for you all!

Last Friday’s Outdoor Education afternoon was an absolute blast. The students had an amazing time participating in Skill Zone and enjoying lots of fun games together. We shared some delicious sausages and Prima, and the afternoon was filled with laughter as the Grade Ones enjoyed being the oldest and biggest kids in the school, even the teachers had a fantastic time!

We also went on a mini excursion to the Old State School, where students learned about what school life was like in the past. They explored a range of interesting artifacts, discovered how tools and resources have changed over time, and discussed how technology is different today.

In Literacy, we’ve been learning new letter sounds, focusing on ‘oa’ and ‘ow’ making the long /o/ sound. In Mathematics, we wrapped up our final unit for the term on Addition and Subtraction.

We hope you all have a lovely and safe Easter break, and we look forward to seeing everyone again at the beginning of Term 2!

  Year 2

Religion:

The students are currently learning about Lent and Easter, and the events of Holy Week. The children were part of a whole school Holy Week presentation today, by singing and sharing the life of Jesus. They also participated in our whole school walk for solidarity by carrying a bucket of water around the school oval as part of Project Compassion “The Big Water Walk”. This provided the children with an opportunity to walk in the shoes of others, by experiencing what it would be like to collect their daily water and carry it home every day.

Numeracy and Literacy:

The children have finished the term by completing some Literacy and Numeracy assessments. The growth across these areas has been wonderful, and we are very proud of the learning that has taken place in Term 1.

Inquiry Learning:

The children enjoyed visiting the old school on Tuesday. They enjoyed seeing items from the past and listening to Mr. and Mrs. Kerr share their insights into some history of our local area. This was a fabulous way to finish our History Inquiry Learning. It was a wonderful way for the children to bring all their learning together.

School Holidays:

We are very proud of all our students in Year 2 on their wonderful Term 1. Hard work, determination, resilience, and friendliness are values that we have had the privilege of witnessing this term.

A friendly reminder, that all children will benefit from reading over the school holidays as well as continuing to read, spell and write the tricky words that they have in their reading folder.

We wish everyone a happy and safe Easter and we look forward to seeing all students back in Term 2.

With thanks,

Mrs. Nye and Mrs. Hyde.
