CCK Family Heading to South Sudan

Soccer, snakes, and a bucket for a toilet! These are just a few of the things Christway College students Kipp (Grade 4), Lottie (Grade 8), and Gideon Fisher (Year 12) have been told to expect as they prepare for a life-changing mission trip to Wanyjok, South Sudan, from December 2026 to February 2027.

The Fisher family is heading to South Sudan to support Jono and Louise Blakston, dear friends from the Reformed Presbyterian Church who have been serving with Reformed Presbyterian Global Missions (RPGM) for the past year and a half. After the sudden departure of other team members, the Blakstons now find themselves the sole managers of the mission and the Cush Christian School. Having visited earlier this year to help establish a new library, the kids’ mum, Megan, saw firsthand the tremendous responsibility they carry. Now, with the support of Brandon’s employer and Megan’s school, the whole family is answering the call to provide much-needed pastoral and practical support during this critical transition toward local indigenous leadership.

What We Hope to Do

The Fisher students are eager to dive into village life and share their gifts with their South Sudanese peers:

Gideon is preparing for a challenge! After hearing about his 800m running abilities, the local youth are ready to race him on their home turf. Beyond the track, Gideon will use his problem-solving skills to assist Jono with technical tasks, teach classes on electrical circuits, and jump into regular volleyball matches.
Lottie is looking forward to new adventures and making friends, especially catching up with her good friend Jonah Blakston. While she’s adjusting to the idea of wearing dresses every day, she is excited to see God at work in the community. Lottie will have the opportunity to help with ongoing work in the new library as well as helping her dad teach the kids in the area how to weave soccer nets.
Kipp is most excited about soccer. He was thrilled to learn that the village boys play every single day and can’t wait to join them on the field and use the nets that everyone will be making together over the summer.
Megan will be helping Louise and the principal of the school align the secondary curriculum with the state requirements so that the high school students can receive their S4 certificate. This is a certification similar to the one students receive in Victoria upon graduation. She will also be running training workshops for the teachers on lesson planning, lesson structure, how to prepare for a new school year as well as digital literacy. Megan has spent many years working in the field of education. A lot of her recent teaching work has been spent working with those who come from war-torn areas and hold refugee status. This experience will be useful in South Sudan as there are many refugees in the area from past conflicts, the present conflict in Sudan and conflicts that still arise within the country.
Brandon will be helping Jono in the upkeep of the mission and leading some training on electrical circuits with the help of Gideon. He is also looking to teach the youth how to weave their own soccer goal nets. There are also plans to generate income for the village by installing a solar powered mobile phone charging station for up to one hundred phones. In preparation for this Brandon has been helping Jono with the power calculations and redundancy specifications for the solar power and battery system. There will also be opportunities for ministry training and Bible classes utilising Brandon’s MDiv and ministry experience as an elder in the RPCA (Reformed Presbyterian Church of Australia).
