From the Campus Principal's Desk

Recently the national and state level NAPLAN data was released. Each year this gives us an opportunity to compare our results to Victoria (bearing in mind that Victoria is the highest scoring state in Australia) and National averages. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 completed assessments in Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation, and Numeracy. Across these four year levels and five learning areas, Christway achieved outstanding results. Our College median was above the Victorian median in every one of the 20 areas assessed.

There were some particularly impressive results. Grammar and Punctuation and Numeracy were significant strengths across the College, while our Grade 3 students achieved exceptionally strong results across all five areas. Our Year 7 and Year 9 students also performed very strongly, demonstrating the continuation of high levels of achievement as students progress through the College.

Importantly, these results reflect achievement across our student cohorts, not simply the performance of a small number of high-achieving students. Across the five NAPLAN areas, approximately 90% of Christway results were classified as Strong or Exceeding, compared with approximately 65% across Victoria.

While NAPLAN provides only one measure of student learning, these results give us much to celebrate. They also provide valuable information that helps our teachers identify areas of strength and opportunities for continued improvement and extension.

Excellent results such as these are built over many years. They reflect the commitment of our students, the support of families, and the skill and dedication of teachers and staff across the College.

At Christway, we want every student to be known, valued, challenged and supported. These results are an encouraging reflection of that commitment as we continue to provide learning experiences that enable every student to grow and flourish and use their God given gifts, skills and abilities.
