Middle Learning Community

This term the grade 3 & 4 students have been exploring the world of computer coding. They have explored different styles of codes such as binary code, colour code and block coding. They had lots of fun coding secret messages using the binary alphabet, and linked this to how computers read lines of codes using 0's and 1's. They have extended this knowledge using a program called Scratch which uses "code blocks" to control different characters, called sprites, and create short animations.

The grade 5/6 students have also been learning about computer coding and applying this knowledge to code pixelated images using RGB (red, green, blue) principles. Unlike traditional colour mixing theory, computers use light to create colour on screens, therefore the computer mixes red, green and blue light as its base.
