ITALIAN

Italiano News

Our Foundation students have been busy learning to count to ten in Italian and have been practising the days of the week through games, songs and interactive activities. It has been wonderful to see their confidence grow as they begin using Italian words and phrases in class.

In Grades 1/2, students completed a vocabulary sorting activity where they worked collaboratively to identify and categorise Italian words into groups including days of the week (i giorni della settimana), family (la famiglia), numbers to 20 (i numeri fino a 20) and greetings (i saluti). This activity helped students consolidate their vocabulary knowledge and recognise connections between words and topics.

Students in Grades 3-6 are currently creating an informative Italian reference book using Canva. Their books include key vocabulary, phrases and learning from throughout the year and will become a valuable resource that students can keep and use for future learning.

We have also been enjoying lots of singing in our Foundation to Grade 2 Italian classes. Music is a fun and engaging way to learn a language, helping students remember new vocabulary and practise pronunciation. We encourage families to enjoy some of the songs we have been singing at school and continue the learning at home!

SPORT

For the last month of Term 3 we've been fortunate to have Sienna join us to coach the students at basketball.  Sienna is still a student at SEDA (Sports Education and Development in Shepparton) herself but comes with a lot of experience in coaching junior basketball teams.

The junior students have found it quite tricky to handle the big, hard basketball, but their resilience has improved each week and they have now had a go at dribbling!

The senior students have practiced many styles of dribbling and have extended they knowledge into modified games that include shooting and defence strategies.  They have particularly enjoyed Golden Child and Sideline Basketball.

ART

The junior students have been learning how to make a stop motion video in Media Art using the design process over the last few weeks. Using their favourite Nursery Rhyme as inspiration, they had to design and draw a back ground, as well as their ‘puppets’, then with a partner they learnt how to create their stop motion video by taking lots of photos with their puppets slightly moved each photo to create their animation. They all did a fantastic job!! 

The senior students have also been completing their music and movie poster designs they created using Canva. There are some very creative designs and we can't wait to share some of these next term at our specialist showcase. 

DRAMA

This week the Foundation students were able to dance with some special guests from the 1/2s! Both groups of students really enjoyed rehearsing their dances together, using a variety of dance moves to the beat of 'Give That Wolf A Banana' and 'Cake to Bake'. The Foundation and 1/2 classes will be recording videos of their dances to present as part of the Specialist Showcase next term.
