Junior School Update 

Cobram AGS Students Excel at Lions Finals

Congratulations to Ruby Swift (Year 4), Aidan Macheda (Year 4), George Watson (Year 6) and Alice Lebner (Year 6), who represented Cobram AGS at the Cobram Lions Junior Public Speaking Competition Club Final on Friday 19 June.

Our quartet were simply outstanding,  delivering confident, articulate and well-prepared speeches. Ruby and Aidan spoke on the topic, "If you could go on a holiday anywhere in Australia, where would you go and why?" Meanwhile, George and Alice tackled the question, "If you could have dinner with anyone in the world (past or present), who would it be, why, and what would you serve them for dinner?" Their thoughtful responses showcased their creativity, confidence and public speaking skills.

Final results were:

•  Aidan Macheda - 1st place in Year 3/4 category 

• Ruby Swift - Runner Up in Year 3/4 category

• Alice Lebner - Runner Up in Year 5/6 category 

Public speaking can be daunting, so it was wonderful to see these students shine out in the community. Well done, Ruby, Aidan, George and Alice — we’re incredibly proud of your efforts! 

Essendon AFLW Players Visit 

On 18 June, we were delighted to welcome four Essendon AFLW players to campus, as Amy Gaylor, Daria Bannister, Holly Ridewood and Sophie Strong spent the morning with our Years 3–8 students.

The visit gave students a genuine and up-close look at life as a professional athlete. Over the course of an hour, the four players answered questions, shared their personal stories and signed what can only be described as an impressive pile of autographs. The players' energy made for a memorable morning, and the conversations they sparked — about dedication, balancing elite sport with study, and pursuing goals at the highest level — were exactly the kind our students benefit from hearing.

 We are grateful to Amy, Daria, Holly and Sophie for making the trip to Cobram and giving so generously of their time. We wish them and the Essendon AFLW squad a wonderful season ahead!

The final day of Term 2 saw our Junior School come together for a wonderful assembly. During the assembly, we celebrated students who have demonstrated what it means to be “Connected Learners” within our Vision for Learning. At Cobram AGS, a connected learner actively engages with others, shares their ideas thoughtfully and is inspired to take an active role as a global citizen.

We also recognised a number of Year 4 students who have recently received their pen license. Well done to these students on reaching this exciting milestone in their learning journey!

Following the presentation of our Shining Star, Art, Music and Sport awards, the audience was treated to a beautiful performance of the hit song “Put Your Records On” by Year 5 students Laney Eddy and Karla Hindson. It’s fair to say these two girls absolutely smashed it out of the park!

Dreamtime Stories Come to Life

Our Foundation to Year 2 students were treated to a special experience this week when Julie Best, Indigenous Officer from GV Libraries, visited the school to share her time, knowledge and culture.

Julie arrived with a wonderful collection of books and native Australian animal toys, and captivated our youngest learners with Dreamtime stories centred on the Murray River — a waterway that holds deep significance for the First Nations peoples of this region, and one that flows through the heart of our own community.

For many students, it was a rich and memorable introduction to the stories, traditions and connection to Country that lie at the core of First Nations culture. We are grateful to Julie for so generously sharing her wisdom with our students.
